cruisin'...

I know I know its been awhile. Sorry la been too busy after getting back to post about it. As the few of you (actually just 3 but a few sounds bigger) who read my blog knows, I recently got back from a 5 nights cruise via StarCruises onboard their Superstar Gemini with someone special. Unlike most Star Cruises, this was via Port Klang (instead of Singapore) and it went up Straits of Malacca stopping along the way in Langkawi, Krabi, Phuket (the main destination) and Penang. Not going to blog about Langkawi and Penang since I've been there and done that and it wasn't much to shout about. Plus due to the heat I didn't even get down at Penang. Did get off at Langkawi though as the option of getting two duty free 1 liter bottles of liquid gold (whiskey) was hard to pass. ;)

Let me start off by talking about the ship. This was the first time I went on a cruise and I must say its a wonderful way to travel and spend your vacation. Not much thinking is needed as the majority of your time is on the boat. Great for relaxing and pigging out. Sadly the cost would deter most. The experience of being in the open ocean and enjoying the breeze is something not to be missed. Especially when you can sit out on the deck, enjoy your dinner with some drinks and stare into the darkness. You can't really put it in words. The ship I was on was rather small compared to most cruise ships. I think it holds about 800 passengers. Which is a good thing as the passenger to staff ratio was smaller. This in turn made things very friendly. The Superstar Gemini had a very nice family vibe going and they made you feel like one of them. The staff on our ship comprised of people from 20 nations. Majority being Fillipinos. The bridge crew of course were mostly Scandinavians. Guests are mostly from Australia and New Zealand. Only like 5% were from Singapore or Malaysia. This is good as I find most Asians too shy/private and that would make situations akward and boring. The Aussies made it more friendly and cheerful although some of them do get out of hand after a few drinks and you wish you could slap them across the face. =)

Most would expect the ship to feel claustrophobic, stuffy and swaying about but surprising its not. First its not shaky at all, not once did I feel woozy. Plus they make very good use of the space. All major locations (dining area, the lounge & theater) were very spacious and comfy. The rooms were not bad either. They used mirrors to make everything seem wider. To cut cost I opted for a inside stateroom (windowless) and it wasn't that bad. Only downside for not having a window is I didn't know when it was morning or night. Hehe. Since I was on a holiday it didn't really matter actually plus I had my trusty mobile to remind me. Maybe next time when I strike it rich I'll get a balcony room. I'm sure that would be so much better. Imagine having breakfast or some drinks at the balcony looking out to sea. Peaceful and serene. The rooms all have similar amenities. Theres a TV with about 5 channels, a writing table, closet, personal AC control, multiple lights to set the mood, bath robes, ice bucket, cups, kettle and a daily supply of mineral water, coffee packets and tea bags. All the linen and towels were of top quality. Even the loo had very good water pressure and temperature. All to make your stay as comfortable as can be.

Now lets get down to the most important part, FOOD! *Droool* I still crave for some of the goodies I had on the ship. Everytime I went for a meal there was something to binge over. From something as simple as fruits (which were always fresh and sweet) to baked mousakka. Everything was freshly made and extremely tasty. They also provide a good variety of breads. Something I really miss during my days in US. Plus the desserts. OMG. There is always about 8 varieties of something sweet, colorful, creamy or moist. Their tiramisu is simply to die for I tell ya! The only downside were the drinks. Only water, tea and coffee was complimentary while cocktails, juices, mocktails or beer need to be purchased. Now that wouldn't be bad if they actually sold them at market price or duty free (being on international waters and all) but NOOOO. They actually charge almost 2 to 3 times more. Arrrgghh. Captive market my ass. That was the only let down from the whole cruise and due to being on a strict budget it can really hamper ones mood.

Being on a ship to many can be really boring. Which I would agree unless of course you are going with a bunch of mates or with someone special. Its NEVER for going solo and don't really hope to pick someone up. The ship however does try to organise activities practically every hour except from 2am to 6am, whereby you're expected to be asleep of course. Now the activities can be a toss. Some people might find it fun while others would think 'Huh?'. Now I say this because I felt that way. LOL. Events like line dancing, sudoku challenge, bingo and karoake don't really rock my boat. I did however enjoy the movies shown at night as well as the stage shows held. If you're a health freak theres always the gym and swimming pool. Plus if you walk around the mid deck 5 times it would equate to 1 mile. Which isn't all that bad. Theres also a library with a pretty decent collection of novels and 2 desktops where you can get online (at a price of course). If you have money to spare you could always head to the spa. Which I bet would be lovely.

Yaaawwn. I think I've crapped enuff about the cruise and its getting pretty late. Gotta wake up for work tommorrow. I'll blog more about Thailand when I get the chance. I'll leave you with some pictures taken while on the ship. Gd'nite folks!

finally!!

Wah woke up to some great news today. I finally received my returns from the the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) for year 2004. Feels like getting a mini bonus. Hehe. Sadly after calculating last year's tax, looks like I owe them as much as they just paid me. Arrrgghh. The agony. Where got fair like that?! Waaaaaaaa....

sigh...

Sigh. What a miserable Sunday this has been. All must have started last night when we had some sup kambing for supper. Slept around 4am. All hell broke lose when I woke up around 9am. Started purging. That followed by vomitting. Whatever I had last night came out. This continued on for hours till everything calmed down. Tried my best to sleep through it all. Its a bit more calm now but I can still feel my tummy churning. Think I'm gonna avoid the sup kambing for awhile. Wasted a whole day because of it.

Worse thing out of all this is I missed my uni mate's wedding lunch. Was looking forward to it as I would have gotten the chance to catch up with my other uni mates. Sigh. Feel really bad. Think I better hit the sack now. Still don't feel good. G'nite all.

another yoke...

LOL. Got it via email. Not sure who the author is. Enjoy...

An old Arab lived close to New York City for more than 40 years. One day he decided that he would love to plant potatoes and herbs in his garden, but he knew he was alone and too old and weak. His son was in college in Paris, so the old man sent him an e-mail explaining the problem:
"Beloved son, I am very sad, because I can't plant potatoes in my garden. I am sure, if only you were here, that you would help me and dig up the garden for me. I love you, your father."
The following day, the old man received a response e-mail from his son: "Beloved father, please don't touch the garden. That is where I have hidden 'the THING.' I love you, too, Ahmed."
At 4pm the FBI and Homeland Security visited the house of the old man and took the whole garden apart, searching every inch. But they couldn't find anything. Disappointed, they left the house.
The next day, the old man received another e-mail from his son: "Beloved father, I hope the garden is dug up by now and you can plant your potatoes. That is all I could do for you from here. Your loving son, Ahmed."

Something funny I received via email. Check it out.

ahhh dorm life...

Got this via email earlier. Really cracked me up. Nothing like being direct huh. Nip it in the butt as they say. LOL.

On a side note, Ash Wednesday was yesterday and a buddy of mine was telling me what he wanted to sacrifice for the next 40 days. First it was no meat, then abstain from sex and lastly he says no 'hand putting'. LOL. I'm sure most of you would have guessed what it means but to those that don't, he meant masturbation. It cracked me up I tell you. Imagine a almost 30 year old telling you he ain't gonna 'hand putting' for awhile. LOL.

up again?!

Sigh. The petrol price has gone up again. This time at a rate of 18.5% or 30 cents. Now its gonna cost a RM1.92 per liter which would mean about RM10 to RM15 extra per full tank for me. I knew it would go up to RM2 but did not expect it to happen so soon and that big a jump as well. Thought they would do it gradually. Guess the idea is to shock the public one shot and let it die down instead of doing it periodically. This way the goverment avoids constant animosity. Problem is this hike is going to cause a chain reaction whereby everything else will go up in price. From food to clothing to services. Sigh. My RM1 roti bakar is gonna be RM1.20 and my good ole Nescafe Ais might reach RM1.80. Arrggh. I'll be paying Sri Hartamas prices in a Seksyen 8 or SS2 mamak. God only knows what the prices in Sri Hartmas or Bangsar would be like.

It was funny about some of the complaints I read about in the newspaper today. One dude complained about paying more for his V-Power. Why not use regular la?! You want higher grade you pay for it right. Not like us regular folks are not affected as well. At least he can drop down a grade, where do we go?! Most cars can't even take Ron92 and not many petrol stations even have it anymore. Sigh. Some of my colleagues and friends have talked about car pooling or cycling to work. Public transport is a no no for most as we work UK and US hours. Sadly all this grumbling and mumbling will die down in about a weeks time. Before you know it everything is back to normal. It has happened every other time the petrol price went up so whats the difference now. Thank god I have a 1.3 liter car with a petrol consumption of anywhere between 11km to 15k per liter. Phew. Pity my mates who have GTIs and higher CC cars. They will be counting every single km they take. LOL.

One thing I found funny yesterday was one of my colleagues thought that the higher gear you reach in your car, the more petrol you consume. So he wanted to actually just use the first 3 gears and skip the other 2. LOL. Can you believe that?! Ignorance sure is bliss! Told the fella that he needed to reach the highest gear as fast as possible to lower his fuel consumption. To top that alot of my other colleagues didn't even know you could skip gears. They thought you need to go up accordingly. LOL. Funny la some people. Still can't stop laughing from it. Clowns.

glory glory man united!

Woo Hoo! Finally a trophy. Phew. Its been like ages since we last won something. I'm sure Fergie was shitting bricks till the game was considered signed and sealed. Pity Wigan though as they lost their number 1 goalie so early in the game which most probably changed everything. Oh well, a win is a win nonetheless. Would prefer an FA Cup or League trophy but I guess beggars can't be choosers right. Hopefully next season Fergie would have brought in some new blood especially in the midfield and defense region. Someone like Frank Lampard or Steven Gerrard would be great in the center and maybe Terry or Hyypia in defense.

Anyways I'm happy we at least have something in the bag. =)

review: brokeback mountain...

I just got back from my Singapore trip and before I left I managed to catch Brokeback Mountain. I doubt it will ever be released in Malaysia legally due to 2 major reasons. Firstly its a gay love story which is a big no no in Malaysia. The 2nd reason is our great censors would have so much to chop up that we will only end up with 30 minutes or so and which cinema is going to show that?! Anyways if ever it did make it to Malaysia, I think the title's translation in BM would be either 'Gunung Belakang Sudah Pecah' or 'Gunung Belakang Pokai'. Hehe.

Now back to the review. After watching this movie, I felt rather disturbed. Actually I felt it right around 20 minutes into the show. Now don't get me wrong as I'm not a homophobe but somehow I just couldn't accept the idea. I know its common nowadays and there are more and more open gays out there, but I guess seeing it all the action in the open is too freaky for me. I do have to admit that as a movie, Brokeback Mountain is a gem. From the acting right down to the directing. I hope Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Williams and Ang Lee win their upcoming Oscar nominations. For Heath and Jake to potray something so difficult and to pull it off so effortlessly is a great achievement. Storywise its not as great as the hype but considering its the first (correct me if I'm wrong) blockbuster gay movie out there, its bound to be sensational. Its surprising that of all directors around, Ang Lee would be the one to pull this off. My hats off to him.

The storyline is about the troubles, confusion and heartache a gay couple faces during the 60s. From hiding the truth from the rest of their world to secretly meeting up just to be together. The story follows their life for 20 years whereby they get married, they get children, one of their spouse catches them smooching, their multiple secret rendezvous on a mountain in Wyoming (although movie shot in Canada) and towards the end where one of them gets beaten to death. Apart from the freaky love affair they share its sad to see the shit they go through especially how it all ends.

I would advise for serious movie buffs to catch this movie. Some of you might not be able to stomach it but its something worth experiencing. To those that have seen it, please hit me back with your comments. I'm interested to see how you perceive this movie. Cheers.

good ole seminars...

Whoopie its been awhile but I finally got sent to another seminar. A nice 2 day break away from work without any emails to reply, calls to make or colleagues to contend with. Plus this time around its on a topic I am really interested in. Something in line with my work. Its on 'Essential Skills and Knowledge for Effective Call Center Management' and is conducted by someone who I must say is very knowledgable, experienced and passionate about the material. So I was all ears and am enjoying it immensely. Plus the food isn't all that bad either. Hehe.

In my experience a seminar's quality is closely related to the speaker. The material could be perfect but if it was not presented well it would come out to be total rubbish. Not to mention how agonisingly slow the hours would go by. I still do have to admit that no matter how good the material, it is tough trying to stay awake and keep track. Besides the constant bombardment of information, I have to also contend with the weird hours. I'm usually going to sleep only at 4am and wake up around noon but this time I have to be at the seminar by 9am. So you can imagine the battle my body is having trying to cope with the sudden flip.

Tommorrow I'll have another days worth before I head back to work on Thursday. Good thing is I'm off on Friday and will be heading down to Singapore to visit a dear friend of mine, Poopie. Can't wait. Think the last time I saw her was about a year plus. Back when I still had Betty. Hopefully the weather will be nice and sunny over the weekend and not like how it has been here. The heat and rain is really frustrating. Makes it very much harder to sleep as well. Keep waking up all sweaty.

Alrighty then, think I better hit the sack. Gotta wake up at 7am tommorrow to be on time for the training. *Yaaawn* Gd' night folks and have a great weekend!

it sux to lose!

Arrggghh. Just got back from the friendly I mentioned earlier and we LOST! Losing is one thing but this was pretty bad. Think the scoreline was 10 to 20 something. Sigh. This is sad, really sad. We really need to buck up or at least play more often. The guys that played against us do it weekly while we do it once in a blue moon. I know I know it ain't a reason to lose. Damn frustrating I tell ya. We gotta get out act together and reinvite them for another friendly. This can't happen. NOOOOOOO. We don't lose. LOL.

First the Red Devils go down and now us. I can't take it. Not 2 losses in a day. This is too much to handle. Dammit I need a drink!!

sad sad day...

Sigh. What a sad night it is. Liverpool managed to tuck the only goal in and won the match. To make things worse Peter Crouch was the scorer. He is the tallest (i think) dude in English Premier League and sucks as being a striker. Arrggghh. The Red Devils were really playing bad. The defending was atrocious and the midfield had no flare. Nothing was being pumped up to give a striking chance. God only knows why Fletcher was kept on the field. He should have been out from the start of the 2nd half. Saha came in and made some difference but there wasn't anything being pumped up for him to even try.

To top of the misery, Alan Smith suffered a very agonizing injury. He fell onto his own leg which broke his leg and dislocated his ankle just before the end of the game. Ouch. Even I felt it just watching it happen. He was carried off on a stretcher and needed oxygen. News is he will be back but will be out for 8 months plus. Its a pity as he was vying for the World Cup call and he really deserves it. Hope he recovers well.

Sigh. Think I'm just gonna hit the sack. Got a friendly match of futsal tommorrow and hopefully we will be able to win that. You guys have a good night. Poopshoot out.

ahh vacation...

Ahhh after a long while I get to go on a nice break. Not that long but at least a week and a half. Got about 2 weeks more. Guess where to? Well finally I'm going on a cruise. Its a 5 night trip on Superstar Gemini along the Straits of Malacca. Cruise starts off at Port Klang to Langkawi, followed by Krabi and 2 nights in Phuket Island before heading back to Port Klang with a stopover at Penang. Should be an interesting trip. Hopefully I'll be able to absorb enuff of Thailand as I doubt I'll head there again anytime soon. I'm really dying to catch a Tiger Show but I heard they are now illegal. Sigh. And when I say Tiger Show I mean those shows where Thai women do all sorts of weird stuff with their genitalia. I know its gross but somehow I'm still curious especially hearing all sorts of stories about their 'skills' from various people. You don't see someone opening a bottle of coke with their vagina everyday now do you?!

One thing I know I can't miss are the cabaret shows done by Thai Ladyboys. Heard its pretty popular and well advertised by the tourism board. No harm in checking it out I guess as long as I don't get picked up by any weirdos. LOL. I know I know, who the hell would want to pick me up. But you never know right. Also I gotta make sure I try dem tasty fried insects. An old mate of mind had some and he said it ain't all that bad. A bit like eating cracklings or chips. Only drawback would be the shells getting stuck in between ya teeth. Maybe I'll bring my floss with me this time. LOL.

Damn I'm so excited about this. Feeling all jumpy and shit. La Di Da Di Da. Alrighty, better stop gleaming and get back on track. Still got 2 more weeks to slog through before I'm off. You guys take care and have a good weekend!

i'm on fire baby!!!

Damn what a great session of ping pong it was earlier. Went through about 9 games without losing any of em. Played 2 of my colleagues whom I usually lose to every now and then. This time I was on FIRE. Even when I was down 15 to 20 I could still manage to come back and win the game. Its a good feeling I tell ya. LOL. Great workout too. Hopefully this keeps up and not just a one off thing. Hmm maybe I am improving in my ping pong skills. Doubt it but better to think positive than to say it was luck right. Muahahaha. It sure is nice to win. =)

rematch time...

Ahh the time has finally come. Manchester United and Liverpool are about to have their rematch tommorrow at 830pm. Not too long ago MU beat Liverpool 1 - 0 with a lovely unexpected goal by Rio Ferdinand. Liverpool as expected whined about how lucky the Red Devils were and yada yada yada. A win is a win no matter how it came. Wonder what the scoreline will be like this time around. Hopefully MU will be able to pull it off again and shut the Reds up for good. Since Cristiano Ronaldo is on fire and I am sure Gary Neville would love to shove his cleats up Liverpool's ass, things should be looking mighty fine for the Red Devils.

As with the previous game, a group of us are heading down to Souled Out to catch the game and have some drinks. Maybe we'll see the same Liverpool geeks that we saw previously and rub it in again when MU beats Liverpool. LOL. I'm expecting a cracker of a game since both sides need the FA Cup trophy badly. MU's year seem to be running dry like last year and the trophy case is getting bare without any new silverware. Poor Rooney deserves something as well. He has been playing his heart out almost every single game this season.

Well good luck MU and knock em dead!

men are from mars, women are from venus...

This is something I got off a forum. ZerotoHundred to be exact and wanted to share. Real funny stuff.

Here's a prime example of "Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus" offered by an English professor:

The professor told his class one day: "Today we will experiment with a new form called the tandem story. The process is simple. Each person will pair off with the person sitting to his or her immediate right. As homework tonight, one of you will write the first paragraph of a short story. You will e-mail your partner that paragraph and send another copy to me. The partner will read the first paragraph and then add another paragraph to the story and send it back, also sending another copy to me. "The first person will then add a third paragraph, and so on back-and-forth. Remember to re-read what has been written each time in order to keep the story coherent. There is to be absolutely NO talking outside of the e-mails and anything you wish to say must be written in the e-mail. The story is over when both agree a conclusion has been reached."

The following was actually turned in by two of his English students, Rebecca and Gary.

THE STORY:

(first paragraph by Rebecca)
At first, Laurie couldn't decide which kind of tea she wanted. The chamomile, which used to be her favorite for lazy evenings at home, now reminded her too much of Carl, who once said, in happier times, that he liked chamomile. But she felt she must now, at all costs, keep her mind off Carl. His possessiveness was suffocating, and if she thought about him too much her asthma started acting up again. So chamomile was out of the question.

(second paragraph by Gary)
Meanwhile, Advance Sergeant Carl Harris, leader of the attack squadron now in orbit over Skylon 4, had more important things to think about than the neuroses of an air-headed asthmatic bimbo named Laurie with whom he had spent one sweaty night over a year ago. "A.S. Harris to Geostation 17," he said into his transgalactic communicator. "Polar orbit established. No sign of resistance so far..." But before he could sign off a bluish particle beam flashed out of nowhere and blasted a hole through his ship's cargo bay. The jolt from the direct hit sent him flying out of his seat and across the cockpit.

(Rebecca)
He bumped his head and died almost immediately, but not before he felt one last pang of regret for psychically brutalizing the one woman who had ever had feelings for him. Soon afterwards, Earth stopped its pointless hostilities towards the peaceful farmers of Skylon 4. "Congress Passes Law Permanently Abolishing War and Space Travel," Laurie read in her newspaper one morning. The news simultaneously excited her and bored her. She stared out the window, dreaming of her youth, when the days had passed unhurriedly and carefree, with no newspaper to read, no television to distract her from her sense of innocent wonder at all the beautiful things around her. "Why must one lose one's innocence to become a woman?" she pondered wistfully.

(Gary)
Little did she know, but she had less than 10 seconds to live. Thousands of miles above the city, the Anu'udrian mothership launched the first of its lithium fusion missiles. The dim-witted wimpy peaceniks who pushed the Unilateral Aerospace Disarmament Treaty through the congress had left Earth a defenseless target for the hostile alien empires who were determined to destroy the human race. Within two hours after the passage of the treaty the Anu'udrian ships were on course for Earth, carrying enough firepower to pulverize the entire planet. With no one to stop them, they swiftly initiated their diabolical plan. The lithium fusion missile entered the atmosphere unimpeded. The President, in his top-secret mobile submarine headquarters on the ocean floor off the coast of Guam, felt the inconceivably massive explosion, which vaporized poor, stupid Laurie.

(Rebecca)
This is absurd. I refuse to continue this mockery of literature. My writing partner is a violent, chauvinistic semi-literate adolescent.

(Gary)
Yeah? Well, my writing partner is a self-centered tedious neuroti whose attempts at writing are the literary equivalent of Valium. "Oh, shall I have chamomile tea? Or shall I have some other sort of F__KING TEA??? Oh no, what am I to do? I'm such an air headed bimbo who reads too many Danielle Steel novels!"

(Rebecca)
Asshole.

(Gary)
Bitch

(Rebecca)
F__K YOU - YOU NEANDERTHAL!

(Gary)
Go drink some tea - whore.

(TEACHER)
A+ - I really liked this one.

10,000 baby...

Woo Hoo my baby has finally clocked 10,000 kilometres and on Valentines Day as well. In good time too. Its been about 7 months and a couple of weeks since I got my car. My previous baby Betty, only manage to clock 10,000 kms after close to a year. Looks like I'm doing a lot more travelling this time around. Good too because I want to get my baby run in fast. Soon I gotta arrange my last service with stupid Perodua Service Centre. After that its all DIY baby. No point paying those fools to do something that will cost me almost 50% cheaper. As well as the peace of mind that it was done properly. I actually drove around for 1km to get that as when I neared my home today after work it was at 9999. LOL.

Alright time for my beauty sleep. Gd'nite folks!

tgif...

Ahh finally the weekend is here. Have been feeling really bored and fedup with work recently. Can't wait to go on a loooong break. Hopefully to somewhere overseas. Actually at this moment anywhere will do. For now I have the weekend to look forward to. Even if I don't do anything productive, bumming around is sweet enuff. Good thing is tommorrow I'm going for my ICE (in car entertainment) road trip with Jam. Gonna survey some shops around Klang Valley and see what they have to offer for my baby. Hopefully settle down on a proper setup and get it done by this month. Its gonna put a dent in my pocket but I've been saving up. Haven't really spent much on my baby especially compared to Betty whereby within' 6 months I spent almost 1/3 the car's value on various things (suspension, wheels and ICE). This time around I'm going at it slowly. Lil' baby steps.

Alrighty I got to go play some ping pong with my office colleague. Beat him yesterday 5 games to 2 and hes itching for a rematch. Hopefully I'll be able to hold my position. Cya folks.

Update: I manage to beat him again 2 games to 1. LOL. Poor fellow.

good ole' chivas...

After about an hour or so reaching home we managed to get something going. We couldn't allow the night to end just like that right. Manage to gather a few mates to chill at my places and enjoy a bottle of Chivas. Liquid gold I tell ya! About 10 of us gathered outside my crib at the 'Pondok' over some drinks and chatter. Jam arrived about 2 hours later (as usual, always late, tonnes of excuses as well) with his guitar and the jamming session started.

Dev, Vick, Jam and Roofus were taking turns singing and free styling. It was fun. A nice slow night with friends. We ended it around 4am with a drive to KL to have the best sup kambing around. Its located at the entrance of Kampung Baru. One day I might blog more about it, maybe take some pics as well. By the time I reached home it was already about 5am plus. Exhausted as ever due to the Futsal game and being up all day, I hit my bed like a sack of potatoes. Woke up only about 1pm to my dad banging at my door. Had promised them to do some grocery shopping.

Got to take my shower now, going to treat my parents to a meal at Souled Out for their 31st wedding anniversary. Can't believe it. They manage to be together for 31 freaking years even with all the shouting and arguing every other day. LOL. Guess thats what marriage is about huh. Hope they have another 20 odd years together. Toodles.

yu sang dinner...

Finally I got my fix of yu sang (raw fish salad)! Woo hoo. Yummy stuff. Somehow I just love the medley of finely sliced vegetables, crackers, sesame seed and raw fish. Not forgetting the plum sauce dressing. If only it was something served all year round. I guess you can make it at home but I ain't much of a cook to begin with. Not to mention I'm too lazy. LOL.

A couple of mates and I got together for a Chinese New Year Yu Sang dinner. Firstly we were to eat at this popular place called New Paris in SS2. Very near my house but as expected it was PACKED! So much so there were people waiting outside of the restaurant and across the road. We decided to scrap that plan and head down to Section 17 which has a nice restaurant as well. Think its called Restoran Happy. It was packed as well but we managed to get a table immediately. We were eyeing some juicy roast duck hanging nearby but sadly told us all of em' have been booked by other customers, some of which aren't even there yet. Can you believe it? Gotta call in advance to book the damn thing. Oh well. As yu sang is a ready made item we got that soon after ordering. We took out time munching on it before the rest of our meal came. It was a good dinner. The surprising thing was the squid that we ordered. Like most people we were expecting sliced squid cooked in whatever way but it turned out to be these tiny baby octopus deep fried with birds eye chilli. Tasty stuff but creepy. Felt like we were eating fried insects. Plus I never knew these fellas were so small (between 4 to 8mm). Wish I had a camera with me to take some shots. Think words can't describe it.

After dinner we are now back at my crib for some drinks. Think later we are to get together with a few others but so far nothin concrete . Hope something comes up as I'm getting bored and sleepy. *Yaaawn*

friendly match...

Its been awhile but we managed to organise a friendly match of futsal with my colleague's friends. We thought why not give it a go, see how our team is progressing. Sadly we lost by 8 to 6. We should have won but we gave them our best keeper for both halfs since they were short by 1 player. Sigh. It sucks to lose. No worries a rematch is coming up soon and this time we are gonna keep our keeper! Hehe. We might end up playing with them more often as well. Its good for us as we get more exposure and hopefully improve on our skills. Then maybe we can realise our dream of forming a proper team and joining some futsal tournaments.

The biggest problem we are having is making sure everyone shows up. During normal days when we play against ourselves its hard to muster up around 8 people. But whenever we mention there is a friendly game, the whole freaking jing bang shows up. Even people we don't invite! Sigh. Its sad how some of these people think. Now we gonna start collecting the futsal court rental fee before the day itself, so at least if those people who ffk (short for fong fei kei or fly aeroplane which means being stood up) will feel the pinch.

Alrighty I think I better head to the showers, got a yee sang dinner date tonight with some mates. C'ya.

end of a chapter...

Finally after 31 days of prayers and what not, my Appa is finally laid to rest. Today marked the 31st day since his death and the last major prayers were done. My dad and I have been up since 4am for the first half prayers at Port Dickson and then to continue the 2nd half at my grandpa's home in Seremban. Prayers ended about 1pm with lunch being served to all those that came for the event. It was a tiring process which we would have skipped (since most of it being unnecessary) but the event was organised by my dad's bro and he wanted to have a 'big send off' so to speak.

Guess most of siblings are trying their level best to show how caring they are when they never really bothered about him for the last 4 years plus. My dad's bro even went to the extent of printing cards and books but whats the point really. The poor old man has passed and all he wanted were his children's love/care for the last few years but none of them bothered. Now when hes gone they come pouring in spending all sorts of money and parading around relatives to show their 'affection'. A lil' too late if you ask me. Hope they live to regret their actions but I doubt it since most of them are too selfish to even care. Oh well, thats how life is right. I'm happy that my grandpa is finally resting in peace and that my parents are less stressed out.

Think I better hit the sack now. *Yaaawn* Been up for more than 30 odd hours and I gotta head to work tommorrow as well. You guys take care aight. Toodles.

firecrackers...

Damn dem firecrackers. Woke me up from my deep slumber. Arrgghh. Cracking and booming here and there. Some joker near my place got hold of some real loud ones and have been firing them up every now and then. Jerk. This is gonna go on for another 3 days at least. Sigh. Our great cops claims they have a crackdown on firecrackers but I don't seem to be seeing it. Its been going off for long periods. If only they would get off their fat asses (not forgetting cosy air conditioned rooms) and drive around, I guarentee they would catch at least ONE!

Its weird though. Before firecrackers were banned, my family would religiously play them every Chinese New Year. We would get all sorts and spend more than a hundred bucks on em'. My bro and I would actually look forward to it and we would even spend our own allowance to double up our supple. LOL. Ever since the ban, for the first few years it was ok, but now I get really irritated with all these jokers going about blasting away. I kind of understand the reason for banning em' since they make such a racket and nowadays the firecrackers are close to being grenades. The amount of force they have is amazing. Plus you have all these idiots thinking they are firearm experts making home made bamboo bombs and what not. At the end they lose their arm/leg or even their lives. Some cause damage by throwing them in other peoples houses. Blowing up stuff. Damn fools.

I guess you can never get rid of firecrackers. Firstly they have been in our culture for years. Then you have all the smugglers bringing it in like its candy. We can't even eradicate pirated CDs so I doubt we'll ever get rid of fireworks. Although they are 2 different things. One is illegal music while the other can actually take a life of a person. Oh well, hope our cops will be more active in catching these perps. Then only can I have some good sleep instead of thinking we are going to war.

Think I'll try to hit the sack again. Its gotten quiet outside. Hope this keeps up. Take care folks and enjoy the long break. Cheerio.

sweating it out...

Finally after a long hiatus (close to 3 months i think) we started playing Futsal again. This time we decided to try out a new place which cost only slightly more. Turns out its very much better than the others and might be out usual spot from now on.Only problem with this place is that they are strict with the time. Previously we could delay as our ppl gathered (typical msians, most come in 10 to 15 minutes late). It was quite a workout I must add. Feeling the age la nowadays. Lucky I was able to keep up although didn't do that much running. Managed to score a goal though, nothing special but a goal nonetheless. Hope we can keep this up and play regularly like before. Need to do some exercise to get rid of my belly. Getting rather annoyed of it. Plus not counting all the back pains I seem to be getting now and then.

The streets were pretty quite today. All the chinese folks have head back to their respective hometowns for the reunion dinner. Now I'm craving for a round of yu sang, which is only served during the Chinese New Year period. Hopefully next Saturday I'll be chowing down on some with a few mates. Think this Chinese New Year is gonna be pretty quit. Gotta work on Monday and then in the wee hours of Wednesday gotta rush down to Seremban to do my grandpas 31st day prayers. Its like a closing of his death so to speak. That would eat up whole of Wednesday. Then its back to working life.

*Yaaawwn* Starting to get sleepy. Better hit the showers, have my dinner and knock out. Was planning to head out with some mates to a nearby mamak and catch an FA Cup game but don't think I'm up for it. Gd'nite ya'll and Happy Chinese New Year!!

espn party...

What an interesting night I had yesterday. The day started off with a trip to the wet market to get our monthly supply of mutton. After that I just bummed at home playing with my niece, reading the dailies and watching the telly. At around 7pm calls were made. We had planned to catch the ESPN EPL Party in Souled Out and we had to get our butts there early before the crowd gets in. This was something we couldn't miss mainly because there was an important game at midnite. Yup you guessed it, Manchester United vs. Liverpool!

After all the calls were made, we managed to reach Souled Out at 8pm which was pretty early since the party only starts at 845pm. Sadly when we got there the place was fully booked. No one was actually there to fill the seats but all tables were booked. We were annoyed as we didn't think reservations were allowed considering the invitation fliers stated gates were to open at 845pm. Anyways we chilled at the bar in hopes of getting a table. Shortly after we ordered our drinks, a table came up free. Best part it was right next to the projector. Which means we had a perfect view of the screen. Woo Hoo! No complaints there. After about 30 minutes or so more people started filling the seats. Before we knew it Souled Out was packed with MU and Liverpool jerseys. Our luck we sat right next to a table of the Liverpool FC Fan Club and boy were they noisy. What made things worse was that the fucked up host (a dumbass comedian called Sheikh Haikal) was also a Liverpool fan and I felt his performance was rather biased. They need to get someone more open so that the fans can go at it. Not the damn host! Anyhoo the night dragged on with the first game between Chelsea and Charlton. Since both MU and Liverpool wanted to reach the top of the league, obviously we were all cheering for the same team, Charlton! The game ended in a draw which ended Chelsea's winning run. Great news for both teams who were about to kick off.

At midnite the game kicked off and everyone were glued to the screen. The game was pretty hot. Liverpool seemed to shine more in the 1st half and it was pretty evident that MU were missing their ailing midfielders (Smith, Ronaldo & Scholes) badly. Surprisingly we came back strong in the 2nd half. Much better chances and more possession. The game looked like it was destined for a draw when a minute into injury time Rio Ferdinand headed a wonderful ball from Giggs. You should have been in Souled Out. On one side all the MU fans were screaming their heads off (I even had beer spilled down my pants from Rio's goal. LOL. Someone hit our table and knocked my beer mug over) and on the other side the Liverpool fans were dead silent. A big contrast from before the goal when they had the host on their side and they were shouting away. You could practically hear a pin drop if needed. LOL. It was a great SLAP in the face. A couple of minutes went by and the final whistle was blown. Woo Hoo, the Red Devils did it again! It was a thrilling game.

After everything cooled down, we settled our tab and headed to a nearby mamak for some Roti Bakar and tea. Spent about 30 odd minutes and headed home. Pretty tiring and my throat was sore from all the screaming plus the sore throat I was still recovering from. Reached home around 330am and after washing up I hit the sack. Been awhile since I had this much fun watching a game. Hopefully ESPN will have more of these and this time I'll make sure I make reservations! =)

flu bug...

Sigh. Caught the flu bug yesterday. Feeling real shitty now. Started with slight sore throat in the morning but now I can feel my nose is gonna start giving some problems. AC in the office isn't helping much either. Damn I hate colds. I rarely get em' but when I do, it goes all out! Got it from my dad who is still trying to kick his off. My mom has caught it as well. Plus it seems about 50% in the office is sick. Not a very good sign. I really hope this wears off soon with the prayers and what not coming soon. Hate being sick. =(

most fun i had in awhile...

Wow what a long day yesterday was but it was one with the most fun I've had in days. Started off around 12ish with a lunch buffet for the project I'm working under. We were celebrating our 2nd anniversary and decided on Crown Princess Hotel for their Hi Tea Extravaganza. Supposedly the longest buffet line in Malaysia (running between 2 restaurants). The food there was not bad especially for the price. Lots of good variety and tasty as well. The interesting thing was, my favourite there was Roti Bakar (toast with Kaya). I know it can be found in our local mamaks but this was cooked under charcoal and the Kaya was really tasty. Plus the bread their using is not the common type bought off the shelves. Yummy! Wish I could have some now...

Anyhoo after lunch we headed to Hard Rock Cafe for some drinks. Thought it would be relatively cheap since its Happy Hour but sadly their Happy Hour prices are actually normal prices anywhere else. Since we were already there we just sat through until Happy Hour ended at 6pm. Before we knew it we had finished off about 10 jugs. Once Happy Hour ended we were outta there and decided to head to Bangsar to continue our party. We ended up in Absolute, which I have to say is a sad joint. One of our colleagues said he had a contact there so we decided why not. The place was okie but I wouldn't really pay cover charge to get in. Plus there wasn't really any contact! Anyways time just flew when we were there. The crowd was so so. Not that many cute ladies. We ended the party around 2am when the club closed. Even skipped dinner.
All we shared was a plate of chilli fried ikan bilis and sausages. We polished off about 3 bottles of JD and a jug of Long Island Tea (between 5 of us). Phew. Luckily we were all still stable. No one puked and no unwanted scenes. Finally ended up on my bed around 4am. Knocked out till about 2pm today.

Been awhile since I drank that much. And to imagine I had a resolution to not drink so much. LOL. Hellave start to the new year huh. Surpringly when I got up this afternoon, did not have a hangover. Stomach felt fine as well. Usually my stomach would be all screwed. Guess I should count my lucky stars. I gotta admit it was a great night. Been awhile since I've been out from lunch time all the way past midnight to the next morning. I think I'm feeling the age la. Can't be doing this often. Maybe once in a blue moon.

Anyways I gotta head out now to K2OC's AGM. Would be my last day as a committee member. Hope it'll be a good turnout. Toodles.

online radio...

Wah what a nice find today. My mate Hybernating Bear found this and passed it on. Its called Pandora and created by the Music Genome Project. Its a nifty site with a comprehensive database of musicians. What it does is stream songs according to your tastebuds. So you just have to enter your favourite song or artiste and it will find songs related to it. So far I've been using this for about 2 hours now and its managed to get about 90% accuracy. Not bad. Plus point is no crappy adverts or DJs. There is supposed to be adverts by the website itself but I don't seem to see anything that is a big bother.

This is highly recommended to those in front of the PC all the time. Perfect online radio'ish service around. Go give it a try. No regrets!

resolutions...

*Yaaawn* Another boring day at work. Sigh. I'm feeling a need for change. Sadly the job market isn't that inviting. Guess I will have to stay put for a bit and bite my tongue. Anyhoo I thought why not jump on the bandwagon and do my 2006 resolutions. Not like I would fulfill them but I guess no harm in at least thinking about it. So here goes...

1. Lose weight (this is more like my life's resolution, not just for 2006)
2. Look for a new job (or scope at least)
3. Find a girlfriend
4. Travel overseas (thinking about New Zealand, Bali or maybe Australia)
5. Buy a house (somewhere around SS18 or 19)
6. Slow down on my drinking (mom would like me to stop but lets be more realistic)

None of them in any particular order. I am sure I have more but I can't seem to think of any right now. Alrighty time to shoot off for dinner. Adios.

so long 'Appa'...

Yesterday was a sad day for my family. My grandfather (affectionately called 'Appa') passed away at a ripe age of 100 years 119 days and 15.5 hours. He leaves behind his wife (Appachi), 4 daughters, 2 sons (my dad being one of them), 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren (plus 1 more on the way). Sadly he left with only one son, one daughter, 2 grandchildren and 1 great grandchildren by his side. He was a strong man who lived through earning a living in a foreign land (Sri Lanka was his home) away from his parents and siblings, being tortured during the Japanese Occupation, losing his job as an estate manager in his 40s (with 7 mouths to feed not including all the others in the estate who relied on him), marrying off his 4 daughters (not an easy feat with the emphasis on dowries), educating 2 of his sons (overseas), losing his legs to due to infection/diabetes and the worse part of all, watching his family break apart due to greed, money and selfishness.

Its a very sad thing to see my dad's family break apart. What once were a tight knit family with multiple gatherings a year (sharing laughter and memories) to everyone hating the sight of one another as well as picking sides on certain matters. The worse was to see my grandfather lose the love, affection and respect of his children. In the last 5 years of his life, only 2 of them cared for him while the others only visited once a year as a formality. Visiting was one thing but they wouldn't even touch, love or take the time to talk to him. How inhuman can a person be. For all that he has done for his family, to see this happen is something very sad. As I type this I can't help but tear.

One thing for sure is Appa passed away with a smile in his face and a peaceful heart. Actually, I can never recall a time when my grandpa never smiled. No matter what shit he had to endure, he never did put on a sad face. He always was happy and cheerful and very loving to his family. Even in the years his health was deteorating and he lost his legs, he was happy with his life and what he managed to achieve. He wanted to celebrate his 100th birthday and he did. He was able to see 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren grow. He lived passed all his friends and relatives. He had no major illnesses or vices. He also wished that he would pass in the home he built and lived almost half his life and he did. Ever so quietly and peacefully in his bed. I couldn't have wished for a better ending.

Today we cremated his body. We did everything as he asked. No elaborate ceremonies, no fussying over his body, no obituary and no ego boosting bullshit most would come to expect. Tommorrow in the wee hours of the morning, we are going to place his ashes along Sg. Linggi, where he spent his life earning a living and nurturing his children. His last wish.

I write this as a testimonial of sorts for my dear grandpa. He didn't want/have an obituary so I thought why not blog it. Plus I feel he deserved a hellave lot more than what he ended up with. To those that ignored him during the years he needed you most, I hope that what goes around comes around. Don't think 1 day of crying is going to solve it.

I end this post with a picture of my Appa and Appachi taken during his 100th birthday.

I love you Appa. God bless and take care. I'll see you when I get there. =)

happy new year...

Happy New Year folks!! Time sure flies doesn't it. Another year just went past in a flash. Hope all of you out there managed to have a great time ushering 2006. Just like the year before some of us decided that we ain't gonna brave through the crowds, cover charges, parking and traffic jams just to see some crappy fireworks, drink watered down beer/liquor and fight with other revelers.

The plan was to group at my house to party on the 'Pondok' (patio thingy my parents build for outdoor gatherings). About 8 of us. Liquors (2 whiskey and 1 vodka), mixers and snacks (peanuts, chips and what not) were bought plus 100 sticks of yummy satay were shipped in (from Subang that is). The gig got started around 1130pm due to some communication and timing breakdown. Sadly something quite typical from my group of friends. Anyways we managed to start before the year ended and we ushered in 2006 with cheers of whiskey and vodka! Now who could have asked for anything more. The night went on till about 630am where everyone were getting tired/sleepy. We managed to finish up 2 bottles and left about 1/4 of another. Before we capped the night, we headed down to SS2 for some lovely Dim Sum. Filled our tummies and we headed home.

It was a nice night. No crowd or noise to contend with. We didn't really miss out on fireworks too since around my neighbourhood there were fireworks were being lighted all round. Another hightlight was one of my mates brought along his friend's Teacup Poodle puppy and he was the cutest thing. Small lil fella, no bigger than 5 inches. He was about 3 weeks old or so. Made me wanna have a dog again. Sigh. Sadly my parents don't share the same thought and its their house. So obviously its a big no no. Need to try and poison my niece to bug his dad (my bro). Then maybe I'll get a chance. We'll see.

I guess thats all for now. My first post of 2006. Happy New Year everyone and hope you have a good year ahead. Cheers!!

jolly christmas...

Its been awhile since I actually went somewhere for Christmas. Usually its just lazing about at home and watching TV. This year however we were invited for 2 open houses. Guess where? Malacca of course. Damn its practically our 2nd home now. LOL. Anyways it was a single day trip. Drive up, eat up and drive back. A simple plan.

About 4 of us headed out in the wee hours (if you count 10am wee) of the morning. Had some breakfast at Bangsar and we shot off. We managed to skip the jam by about 30 minutes or so and reached Malacca within 1.5 hours. Just in time for the 1st invitation which was Devan's crib. His mom prepared for us a scrumptious spread of wonderful curries (chicken and mutton) and briyani rice. Yummy. We also managed to indulge in a few pecs of JD with coke. Do note that this was forced upon us by the host. We were just obliging. Can't be rude now right? Especially being Christmas and all.

After the meal it was already close to 4pm. We proceeded straight to the 2nd destination (Maria's place) which was at the Portugese Settlement. I was excited as after all the trips to Malacca, I still have not stepped foot into the settlement. Somehow we never really had a reason to go in. As we drove in we saw all the interestingly decorated houses. They seem to take much more pride in the decorations. Reminded me of when I was in US. Where you could drive down almost every street and see the decorations up. Sadly it wasn't at nite so we couldn't see all the wonderful lights and colors. The roads were kinda tight though and our designated driver had trouble maneuvering the car around. We did however manage to find a spot to park and headed down to her house. We were greated again with food. Sigh. The torture. Don't these people understand that I need to lose weight! First it was the yummy sweets like jam tarts, portuguese sweet bread (very tasty stuff with a hint of cinnamon) and cookies. Then I was expecting tea as discussed but somehow a can of Tiger (beer) popped up. Once again I was forced our of obligation to drink it. HeHe. We were then invited to try our some food which were their specialty. Something I was dying to try as I have been told were spicy and heavenly. Yup you guessed it, Devil's Curry. As bonus we also got to try some mutton curry as well which was really good. Tasted very much like rendang and the meat was nice and tender. *Drool*. After that we had to head back to Devan's place and crash. Our tummies were too stuffed to even move properly.

Now let me rant about the Portugese Settlement for a bit. Please note this is my opinion ya, don't get your knickers in a knot or all hot and bothered about it. Just giving my honest opinion. Firstly I have to say that most women there are beautiful. No matter what the age. They have very nice features and a wonderful skin tone. Must be the mixture in their lineage. The men however have rough features and somehow don't seem compatible with the women (in terms of looks that is). Next is how outsiders aren't really welcomed. Now I don't blame them for this because I wouldn't like idiots driving around checking out my house during Christmas and causing a ruckus. I was even told by Maria that some tourists actually stopped by and asked if they could borrow their toilet. Jeezz. The cheek of some people. Anyways it did give us a scary feeling. I wouldn't be surprised if we accidently hit a car we would have been chopped up and served for dinner. LOL. I know I know I'm exaggerating but it sure felt like it. I think its most probably of the closeness of the community. I was told most there don't really leave the settlement much. I guess that is a good thing as the community is well guarded and it preserves their culture. Alright enuff ranting about the settlement. Back to the trip.

At Devan's place we were practically knocked out. Two of us were bumming watching the telly while 2 others fell asleep. By the time we were energetic enuff to do anything it was already 11pm. And as expected we were hungry again. We headed down to a nearby mamak and had our dinner. We were actually supposed to head to Umbai again but were too lazy to drive down (takes about 30 minutes or so). After dinner we were to drive back but Devan managed to convince us to head to Ringo. Our favourite hangout joint in Malacca, located along Jonker's Street. There we had about 3 buckets of beer. Chilled and enjoyed the music. If only there was a place like that in KL or PJ. Would have been a really nice place to hang with some mates. Around 2ish in the mornin' we decided to head back home. We said our goodbyes and shot off. The roads being clear we managed to reach home by around 330am. Damn were we tired. Knocked out till about noon the next day.

Overall it was a great way to spend Christmas. Hanging out with mates, eating wonderful food and having drinks. Now what more could I ask for. =)

king is back!

Woo Hoo. The Prosperity Burger is back. After a long hibernation McD has brought back the Prosperity Burger. Nice soft beef patty with black pepper sauce and onions. Just had one for lunch today. My all time favourite. Nothing so far can beat it. Thankfully the formula hasn't changed as well. The burger still taste the same since it was introduced except for maybe not being as spicy. Used to be much more peppery. Think some softies must have complained and they changed the formula. Anyways it still tastes great. Yummy!! Hopefully they don't bother to bring back the chicken version. Now that isn't much of a hoot. The meat is rather tough and the use of capsicums instead of onions isn't that great. Guess they brought it out for those that don't eat beef.

Damn thinking of the burger is making me hungry. I think I'll have one for lunch tommorrow. Can't resist the temptation. Plus it ain't gonna be around that long. Might as well gobble up while I can. LOL.

the movies...

Ahh after a handful of months I got to go for my movie binge again. Took Friday off to burn my annual leaves before the year end and booked 2 movies in GSC 1 Utama. First being King Kong at 1130am followed by Narnia at 330pm. King Kong is worth watching at the cinema (make sure its a THX Certified theater as well) but I'll advise to give Narnia a pass. Not worth the effort to get hold of a ticket as well as the packed theater with noisy kiddies. A DVD9 would do just fine. Anyways something striked me at the theater yesterday, its starting to smell like a freaking food joint. Damn GSC is now selling Fish N Chips, Fish Balls and god only knows what else as snacks. Jeeez. Last time it was only the smell of butter from the popcorn or boiled corn as well as an occasional McD burger/fries sneaked in. Now the cinema itself is providing all the stinky food. What a turnoff. All throughout the movie I could smell fries, tomato ketchup and god only knows what else. Sigh. Not to mention the occasional burps from satisfied tummies. Starting to really ruin the cinema experience. Wonder what they will introduce next. Nasi Lemak and Curry Mee maybe. Yuck. At least at GSC the seats are nicely spaced and spacious. So its comfortable throughout the movie.

Sitting through King Kong was one hellave experience. My bladder almost exploded. I'm one of those that can't miss a scene so going to toilet breaks is a big no no. Considering King Kong was 3 freaking hours long, you can imagine the torture. The last time I went through the same problem was when Titanic was released. Phew. I can still feel the pain. Ouch. To make things worse, GSC 1 Utama makes you take a big round before you can get back into the mall. So you can imagine the agony trying to locate a damn toilet! Next time I ain't drinking or getting a drink for any long movies. Its just not worth it.

*Yaawn* Think I better hit the sack now. Been up all day. G'night.

what a scare...

The weirdest (and painful) thing happened to me yesterday. As I was getting ready for work, I wanted to place a pair of headphones into my cargo pant's pocket. Just when I bent slightly to put the earphones in, I felt a sharp sting at my back. I fell onto my bed cringing in pain. I laid there for about 15 minutes before I shouted for my mom for help. I could barely move let alone stand up. My mom kept bugging me to stand up and walk the pain out but I just couldn't bare it. I laid there in pain watching the time go by. Thinking that it would subside and I can head for work. Sadly that never happened. The pain lingered. My mom then gave me some painkillers and I waited for it to take effect. Nothing changed. By that time it was already too late to go to work so I decided to take the day off. I laid there not knowing what to do and also fearing that I might have slipped my disc. I remember an office mate who went through that and was on MC for 4 weeks!! Plus the amount of caution he has to take since then to avoid it happening again. I was really scared I tell ya.

At dinner time my mom made me a sandwich as I couldn't go downstairs for dinner. With the immense pain the last thing I wanted to do was get out of bed. I ate, took more painkillers and forced myself to sleep. Praying that it would be all okie in the morning. Sadly when I woke up the next day it wasn't any better. I could move a lil but couldn't stand or walk due to the pressure of my body on my bones causing it to hurt like hell. I forced myself up and using a walking stick headed to the nearest clinic to see whats up. Hoping it wasn't serious. I was refered then to Sunway Medical where the emergency ward took an x-ray and gave me a jab. The verdict? Thankfully it was just an acute back sprain. My bones are fine. No slip disc. What a relief I tell ya! It was one hellave scare. Since the jab the pain is subsiding. Doctor told me to rest a few days and it'll be fine. Gave me a whole lotta pain killers as well. Now at least I can walk and sit without much pain. There is still a slight nagging sting in the center of my spine (near the crack of my butt) but compared to what I was suffering before, I ain't complaining.

Sigh. Now I kinda know what getting old feels like. Especially when osteoporosis kicks in. I better take good care of my body. Now I'm worried of even playing futsal or ping pong. Don't wanna go through what I'm going through now. Worse still if my discs was what got screwed. *Touchwood*. Alrighty, I better go take some pain killers now and head to bed. Hopefully it'll be much better tommorrow morning. Wish me luck guys. Cheers.

Priorities

An elderly lady was standing at the railing of the cruise ship holding her
hat tight so that it would not blow away in the wind.
A gentleman approached her and said, "Pardon me, madam. I do not intend to
be forward but did you know that your dress is blowing up in this high
wind?"
"Yes, I know," said the lady. "I need both my hands to hold onto this
hat."
"But madam, you must know that you are not wearing any underwear and
everything is exposed!" said the gentleman in earnest.
The woman looked down, then back up at the man and replied, "Sir, anything
you see down there is 85 years old. I just bought this hat yesterday!

christmas wish list...

Although I do not celebrate Christmas (except for eating the goodies), I thought why not have a wish list up. The best thing about Christmas has to be the swapping of presents. I mean, how can anyone dislike that. Except maybe if you have cheap relatives or friends. LOL.

Anyhoo, heres my wish list for this Christmas. In no particular order that is. Anyone willing to fulfill them can always comment below and sign up. =D

1. XBOX 360
2. Mediocre Audio Setup for my MyVi
3. Titan Suspension for my MyVi
4. Sony PSP
5. Bali Trip (minimum 3 nights)
6. Norwegian Hawaiian Cruise
7. Ipod
8. Leather Upholstery for my MyVi
9. A GirlFriend (seriously, any recommendations?)
10. Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory Tour (to satisfy my choco cravings)

Sigh. The list can go on and on. Better stop if not people would think I'm greedy. Hehe.

food fest!!

Waddup y'all?! Just got back from Malacca with some mates. Seven of us decided to drive up in 2 cars and rent a 2 bedroom apartment for the night. From the time we arrived till we left, food was our only priority. One hellave pigout session I must add. Together we must have added about 10kilos. LOL. I think if not for having a bath, some sleep and the drinking session, we practically stuffed our faces the rest of the time. I won't be blogging on what we ate and where because its exactly same as before. No point in going somewhere new when the good shit have already been found.

This time around it wasn't as exciting as before. I think knowing what to expect spoils the fun of it. The first time we went we were new to all the foods so everything was a surprise and surpassed our hopes. Now that we knew what we were about to have, it kinds ruined it for us. We became bitchier actually. LOL. Being able to compare does have its ups and downs I guess.

Below are some pics of the trip. Time for me to hit the sack. Yaaaawn. It has been a looooooooong weekend. *Burp*

wheres the food????

cheers...nothing like a cold heiny...

cool kwai lo...sings in malay and mandarin as well...

nothing like yummy local ice cream to cap the trip...

food poisoning...

Arrggh what a screwed up day I had yesterday. Was practically bedridden the whole day. Must have ate something dirty/spoilt during supper the previous nite and that screwed my tummy up real good. Was purging and vomiting constantly. Had to even break my clean record and take an MC. Now I'm avoiding anything oily or milky. Don't even have the appetite actually. Hope my tummy gets back to normal soon since I'll be heading down to Malacca this weekend. Don't want to be missing out on all the goodies there. Guess I'll stick to drinking soup till then. Sigh.

power of technology...

I found something very interesting today. At around 7ish pm I received an SMS from a friend stating that her friend's 6 year old daughter was kidnapped today along with their car, which is a new Perodua MyVi, at a petrol station in Puchong. Without hesitation I forwarded this SMS to my mates as well as people in the office. I went online during that moment and noticed that there were multiple postings of this case in various forums. I also got word that some of my mates received this news via chat tools like MSN/Yahoo Messenger and ICQ. About an hour or so later an update was posted in most of the forums stating that thankfully the daughter was found by a taxi driver. The story was that they left the car (running I think) in the petrol station (to pay or get something I'm presuming) with their daughter inside. Two guys got in the car and shot off. They immediately spread the news to their friends who in turn spread it about. About an hour or so later the lil' girl was found by a taxi driver along a road somewhere. Thankfully as the girl's safety is all that we were worried about. The car can always be replaced.

Now the interesting thing is, I do not know this family and neither does my friend who sent the SMS to me or received them from others. But the way how information travelled to tonnes of people who were total strangers to the people affected. I even heard that a radio station publicised this during the ordeal (although stating that they cannot verify if it was true). The marvels of technology helped spread the news and keep people in the lookout. I am sure without mobile phones and the internet, it wouldn't have been so quick and god knows how the ending would have been.

This also reminds me of an incident whereby a car got stolen in Shah Alam and within minutes it was posted online to spread the word. After about a handful of hours, the car was spotted in Johor (which is about 400km or so away from where the car was) at some workshop. Within a few hours from getting that info, the car was recovered by the owner (and his mates of course) in one piece. Imagine how fast that took. No cop in Malaysia could do that I tell ya. At least not without bribing or getting some big shot to pull some strings. And all that would take at least a day or 2. This was done within half a day.

Its amazing. The power of Information Technology. Although in some cases its a pain with people suffering from defamation/slandering to black mail. But majority of the times its the best source to spread information without all the damn red tape and hurdles. Especially in the latest incident where a child's life was at risk. Thank god she was found so fast and unharmed. Can't imagine the trauma the parents and the the lil' girl faced. At least they are reunited now. Hope they manage to find the car and catch the 2 arseholes who did it. Sadly I doubt it with the state our cops are in. Sigh. Its getting really scary nowadays. Too many shit happening with no sense of security at all. We are becoming very close to a lawless nation. Well at least I feel that way.

Anyhoo, I better get back to work. G'nite folks and be careful. You never know when you would be targetted.

cheapskates...

Why oh why are Malaysians such cheapskates?? I mean I'm sure its not just in Malaysia but I've been to a handful of countries and still feel we have about the cheapest people you can find (besides Singapore that is *wink*). People here don't seem to pass up anything that is free. Even if they don't freaking need it. I see this happening almost daily. In the supermarkets you see people actually lining up for free samples. Some to the extent of cutting line, pushing or using their children to grab more. I mean come on la people. Are we that poor a country or is there a famine going on which I wasn't aware about? This is not Somalia or North Korea. They have a justified reason.

Then we have the monkeys who haunt Open Houses during the festive season. These people have made it an art form I tell ya. Some even have the gall to bring their own tupperwares and what not to tah pao (doggie bag) as well as their maids to do the dirty/humiliating work. Imagine that these monkeys we are talking about are actually educated (to a certain extent that is), have a good paying job and most probably with multiple cars, a maid (or two) and a huge bungalow (not counting the 2 condos that they are renting out as well as their holiday home in Langkawi or Port Dickson). Yet they don't mind braving the traffic and cramped up with 100s of other cheapskates just to get some food which is most probably better at our neighbourhood mamaks/stalls. Its most probably cheaper as well to buy the food considering the petrol and time wasted at these open houses. If it was up to me, I rather they spend the money on these lavish open houses to feed the really poor and malnurished people of the world.

One thing for sure is how THICK these freeloaders must be. No sign of shyness or embarassment. Some are even proud of their takings. Jeeez. I mean I know getting something free is always good, but only take it when you need it. Not take it for the sake of it because at the end of the day its gonna be tossed in the garbage. Oh well, sorry for just rambling on. Just wanted to let it out as I've seen it happen recently and felt rather disgusted by it.

*Yaaawn* I think I'll hit the sack now. Its rather late and I'm starting to see stars. Toodles folks!

slurpeeeeeeeee...

Damn today I felt like an addict. I had this huge craving for Slurpee and I couldn't lay still until I actually got it. Practically had to drive to about 3 7/11s @ 11pm before I managed to get my hands on one and boy was it worth the effort. Got myself the green colored one like in the picture attached. Think the flavour is Tutti Frutti. Yummylicious. Now my tongue is all green and I'm still recovering from massive brain freeze. Its been donkeys years since Slurpee was out and it still is an all time favourite. I actually stopped having them for years but all of a sudden I have these cravings. I'm still in search of the blue variety, think its called Moutain Breeze or something along those lines. Can't seem to find that flavour anywhere. It was the first flavour released in Malaysia when Slurpee was introduced by 7/11 (or at least it was the first flavour I had). Instead nowadays they have all sorts of weird flavours. The worst so far was Asam Boy (tamarind) which miraculously dissappeared after about 2 weeks on the market. I wonder what other flavours they would come out with. Durian? Mangosteen? Oh well, as long as they have Tutti Frutti on the market I'll be fine.

By the way, if anyone does find the blue colored Slurpee, please do inform me. Cheers...

identity card...

Finally after 2 weeks since my wallet got stolen I managed to get my temporary identity card (IC). The whole freaking process took 4 hours! We reached Putrajaya around 1030am, got my number and by the time my number was called it was around 1230pm. Then after taking the pic I was done around 1pm but I had to get my temporary IC notorized. Just as expected my arse luck kicked in, damn department that notorizes are closed for lunch from 1pm to 2pm. So I had to waste my time hanging about at the cafeteria till they opened again. Can you imagine it took them about 30 minutes just to notorize my freaking temp IC. Jeeeez. Talk about speedy service. Wasted the whole day at the JPN office. Sigh. At least I got it done I guess. Supposedly Putrajaya is supposed to be the fastest way to get your IC but not anymore. I think people found out and now the place is packed just like the PJ or KL branches.

Luckily I had my mate with me to pass the time. Even he was shocked at the queue because previously when he brought other people there, things were done within 30 minutes or so, 1 hour the most. Hmmm maybe it was just my arse luck. During the whole 4 hours, we were the only ones fooling about. The rest were all so glum and pissed. I mean I know its long and tiring but at least make the best of it la. We had tonnes of weird stares and I'm sure some nasty comments but screw it. I would say it was an eventful day because at the end I still got my temporary IC and soon (well within 2 months or so i think) my official MyKad.

I am however still dissappointed on how slow it is to just make an identity card. Things like these should be done with ease. How can they expect people to spend a whole freaking day just to get their ICs done?! In the US when I had to get my State ID or Driving License, the max it took was about 20 minutes. I understand an hour but 4 freaking hours is too much especially with this day and age of information technology. Sigh. I wonder when things would catch up or at least the services would improve. Soon I have to go to JPJ and get my driving license. I hope that journey isn't gonna require a whole day. I'm running out of leaves to take!! =(

its been 2 years...

Wow time sure flies. Two years ago this day was when I joined my present company. Lots of changes have gone by and I'm still here under the same roof. Made many friends (some of whom have left) as well as a few enemies (can't really avoid them can i?). I am greatful to have gotten a job in this company as well as the progress I have made. I can't really complain much. People who know my history in this company would slap me even if I did. Lets just say I got on the right train and still haven't gotten off. Its interesting to see how things can change within 2 years but even better still is when some things NEVER change at all. Like how one of my mates put it, same shit different toilet. I know I know its a disgusting corelation but its spot on I tell ya.

I've learned alot of things in these past 2 years. Gained hellave alot from my colleagues, managers, customers and even the mamak stall people outside or the numerous places we go for our lunch and dinner. Mostly useful stuff but an occasional crap here and there. After all we tend to learn better from fuck ups right, whether it be ours or others. The thing that I find interesting is that even though I should be happy with what I have achieved so far, from time to time I'm not. Maybe its because I'm bored of what I do or maybe because there isn't any challenge anymore. It could just be time to move on to a different role with different hurdles. Then again there are times I don't want anything to change and get pissed when they do. Sigh. Will there ever be a balance? Or a sense of satisfaction? I guess not since that would make life rather dull.

Anyways I didn't mean to purge, just wanted to mention that its my 2nd year not only in this company but under the same project. To all that are in the same boat, Happy Anniversary and looking forward to more years to come. =)

whoopie a badge!

Did you guys catch the papers the other day? About our great police force and their campaign to stop bribery/graft. I must say the commitee that came up with it must be some exceptional people. I wonder how many curry puffs, kuih lapis and mee goreng were consumed to come down to this remarkable solution. What the fuck were they thinking?! OMG. Wear a freaking badge as a cure against bribery?! Wow I'm sure this is gonna be one hellave campaign. Its worse than our Tak Nak campaign. And we all remember how successful that was. I see more smokers now than before! I guess those screwed up ads on the telly, papers and billboards were too much to handle. Got people all stressed out and shit and you know what happens when people get stressed out right. Light up a stupid ciggy and puff their life away.

So I guess these badges must have some secret powers. Whenever a cop accepts a bribe, do they shit in their pants? Or better still, maybe they turn inside out? Now that would be something worth seeing. C'mon la people. Wearing a fucking badge is not gonna stop bribery. Its not even going to make a dent into the whole issue. Its just a BADGE!! The cops wear a police badge don't they? Do you see them upholding the peace and safety? I've had friends who came from abroad and never saw a cop for their whole stay here. And I'm talking about a weeks stay or more. That itself is a testament of how screwed up things are here. All of them are too busy wolfing down curry puffs and drinking tea in their nice air conditioned rooms.

There is a much bigger issue here than bribery and wearing a damn badge. We should start with some control and ultimatums. If the cops actually DO THEIR WORK, I am sure we won't have to worry about bribery/graft. Its sad that I do not feel safe in my country anymore. At certain times we can actually be compared to countries like Somalia and Indonesia where crime is rampant. You can get robbed right outside your front door or have thieves have the cheek to lock you in your own house while they strip your car apart. Sigh.

If badges really did work, we would have stopped the spread of AIDS, eradicate drugs and last but not least, actually have world peace...

welcome back red devils...

Woo Hoo. Manchester United just whipped Chelsea in the butt. It was a terrific game and Chelsea could have come even or actually win it during the 2nd half but good ole Man Utd persevered. There were some great chances missed by the Devils as well but I ain't complaining since they got a win. Finally after a handful of miserable games. Maybe Roy Keane's nasty yet truthful comments did help. Gave the team a slap in the face and wake their asses up. Now at least they've proven that Chelsea IS BEATABLE! Hope they keep this up. We can't afford losing anymore especially during the Champions League. Can't be going home this season empty handed now. Its just not right.

Good going Red Devils!! Now I can have a good sleep. G'nite y'all.

bandito pockett SUX...

What utter crap!! I just managed to get my hands on a KFC Bandito Pockett. KFC's answer to McD's Foldover (which is simply superb I must add). Sadly KFC fucked up yet again. Whomever that came up with the concept screwed up just like the KFC Curry Crunch. The pineapple salsa thingy is just not working folks. The Bandito Pockett is a hot & spicy 100 percent chicken fillet topped with pineapple salsa sauce, lettuce and mayonnaise, and specially wrapped in a tortilla flatbread into a handy little pocket. Now the idea sounds great, but don't be fooled. The pineapple salsa has this weird sweet taste which doesn't jive with the whole meal. I think I'll stick to the Foldover which never seem to fail except that now they are charging an extra 50 cents for more sauce. Damn these thieves. Daylight robbery I tell ya. Not like they pour a whole bucked of sauce or something for you. Just a lil dab extra and they want more money!

Anyhoo I just wanted to bitch about KFC's new product. Yet another screw up by them. I think they need to revamp their whole R&D team. Hire some people who actually know about food for once. Its been a long while since they came up with something new and original which actually sells. If I'm not mistaken it was the Zinger burger. Oh well, good luck KFC and to the rest of you, STAY AWAY FROM THE BANDITO POCKETT!!

You've been warned. Toodles.

diwali...

To all Hindus,

Happy Deepavali!!

May the Festival of Lights bring
Happiness your Way...

i'm tired...

Sigh. Never thought losing my wallet and mobile can be soo taxing. I haven't had the mood the last few days. Felt lost most of the time and also pissed. Couldn't get my IC done today because they ran out of numbers. Was told to come back after the 14th of November! Can you imagine? They want me to wait for 2 freaking weeks. My police report is only valid for that long. Arrgghh. Can't imagine why its that hard to make a freaking IC. Our country really needs to improve on our administration. Things like these should happen instantly. Delays of multiple weeks is totally unacceptable. Jeeez. We shouldn't have to fucking wait??!! Now I'm practically an imigrant in the eyes of many. I can't get my ATM cards just because I don't have an IC. Can't get my driving license. Can't apply for a loan or even a new credit card. Damn I even feel like an imigrant. Luckily Maxis accepted my Passport as proof of existence. If not I won't even be able to use my mobile.

I just got back from getting a new phone. Luckily I had backup of about 70% of my contacts in my PC. I managed to download everything to the new phone without any hiccups. I also managed to get everything with my car settled. Its been a loooong and tiring weekeend. I only hope I will be able to get my IC and driving license settled without any issues. Don't want this episode to drag on for months. Anyone out there with contacts in JPJ or JPN? Please do hook me up. Help a blogger out pleaseeee.

I think I'll hit the sack now. Tommorrow is Deepavali and we will be getting some visitors. Can't be all glum and sleepy now right. Take care folks and have a good week.

what a f**ked up day...

Sigh. My arse luck has hit an all time high. One moment of weakness and I get screwed royally. For the first time in playing futsal with my office mates I brought a bag and left my car keys, wallet and handphone inside and guess what happens?! The freaking bag gets stolen right before me. We only played like 15 minutes before I realised my bag was gone. There was a church tournament going on and lotsa of people around, didn't except it to be unsafe. Luckily I noticed it earlier so the car was still there. If we kept playing like usual for 1 hour plus, the car itself could have gone missing. Sigh. I feel so naked now. Everything personal is gone. My documents (IC and driving license), some momentos in the wallet, my lovely handphone with all the contacts and my freaking car remote. Do you know I just changed my alarm the day before? Damn. Now I gotta go find a replacement remote. The money loss is something I can forget, but all the personal stuff. Arrgghhh. There is no way in hell I am gonna get it back and I am sure that arsehole of a thief ain't gonna keep it. Its most probably lying in some dumpster rotting away. Fuck You whoever you are. Hope you get into a bad accident and suffer for the rest of your life.

Now I most probably have to take leave on Monday and spend the whole freaking day fixing the mess up. Gotta get new IC, new phone, new ATM card and fix my car's keys since he has a set now. All this just before Deepavali as well. Arrgghh. I even saw an arsehole hanging out near our stuff, didnt' think much of it because lots of people around checking the games that were being played. Am so angry with myself now because I saw the culprit but didn't expect the theft. Even one of my office mates lost his new mobile which cost like RM1500. He only had it for like 2 months. After the incident we were told that the guy has stolen from there before. Regular port for him it seems. Why the fuck didn't the owner post something up if he was regular?! Jeeeeez. We are regular players in that Futsal court as well!!

I can't really blame anyone but myself. Shouldn't have been so careless. I usually lock my phone and wallet in my car. Can't even imagine why I did not today. So damn pissed right now and tired as well. Been out killing off my credit cards and ATMs, making a police report (took an hour just for that) and also reprogramming my car's remote. Am really greatful I had my mates with me till late evening. Felt bad because we stopped a great game we were having as well as wasted their Saturday. Sigh. I think I'll just retire for the day. Too pissed to do anything else actually.

You guys have a good night and always be wary of your surroundings. It ain't safe out there. It never is. Cheers.

deepa what?!

A young second generation Indian in the US was asked by his grandmother to explain the significance of "Diwali" to his younger brother, this is how he went about it...

"So,like this dude had, like, a big cool kingdom and people liked him. But, like, his step-mom, or something, was kind of a bitch, and she forced her husband to, like, send this cool-dude, he was Ram, to some national forest or something... Since he was going, for like, something like more than 10 years or so.. he decided to get his wife and his bro along... you know...so that they could all chill out together.

But DUDE, the forest was reeeeal scary shit... really man...they had monkeys and devils and shit like that. But this dude, Ram, kicked ass with darts and bows and arrows... so it was fine. But then some bad gangsta boys, some jerk called Ravan, picks up his babe (Sita) and lures her away to his hood. And boy, was our man, and also his bro, Laxman, pissed... And you DON't piss this son-of-a-gun cuz, he just kicks ass and like...,all the gods were with him.. So anyways, you don't mess with gods. So, Ram, and his bro get an army of monkeys.. Dude, don't ask me how they trained the damn monkeys... just go along with me, ok... so, Ram, Lax and their monkeys whip this gangsta's ass in his own hood. Anyways, by this time, their time's up in the forest..and anyways...it gets kinda boring, you know... no TV or malls or shit like that.

So,they decided to hitch a ride back home... and when the people realize that our dude, his bro and the wife are back home... they thought, well, you know, at least they deserve something nice... and they didn't have any bars or clubs in those days...so they couldn't take them out for a drink,so they, like, decided to smoke and shit... and since they also had some lamps, they lit the lamps also... so it was pretty cooool...you know with all those fireworks.. Really, they even had some local band play along with the fireworks..and you know, what, dude, that was the very first, no kidding.., that was the very first music-synchronized fireworks..you know, like the 4th of July stuff, but just, more cooler and stuff, you know.

And,so dude, THAT was how, like, this festival started."

His GrandMother fainted.
