This afternoon my mom's bro came down from Bristol, UK. Last he came was last year around the same time. This time though its rather special as he is visiting with my mom's sis from Oregon, US but she'll only arrive Wednesday morning. As expected mom is all excited cos the last time any of us saw my aunty was like 12 odd years ago when my grandma passed away.

It was supposed to be a reunion of sorts with my mom's elder bro coming down as well. He hasn't been back to Malaysia since leaving to UK when he was around 20 odd years old. Hes like 65 odd now I think. Unfortunately he has some passport issues so hes stuck till that gets cleared. Guess hes gonna come down alone early next year or something.

I'm expecting some goodies when I go back later tonight. On his last visit I got my first original Manchester United jersey with number 11 (Giggs). This time I asked for number 7 (Ronaldo). On top of that I'm sure there will be loads of chocos. Hehe. From my aunty I'm expecting Reese's peanut butter cups. Something I haven't eaten since I left US 4 years ago. Just found out that Cold Storage has em' but as expected rather pricy. Also requested my aunt to get me a Transformers printed t-shirt. :D

Gonna be taking handful of days of to accompany them. More like the designated driver. Hehe. Guess gotta work for the prezzies right. Nothing in life is free. ;)

getting bored...

We won. Thats the good news. A beautiful goal by Ronaldo as well. Unfortunately I can't really say much about how we are playing. Poor performance against Birmingham. To top it off we have become a real bore to watch. I miss the attacking play and flair around the midfield. I miss the confidence whenever we are near the goal mouth.

The new transfers (Nani, Andeson & Owen), suspension (Ronaldo) and injury (Neville, Rooney and Saha) have definately slowed us down. Team doesn't seem to have gelled yet. I wish Fergie would start Saha and give him time to set in. I wish Nani would also have more time on the field. Champions League game against Roma is coming up and I hope we will do well. Roma isn't a team to take lightly and after being whooped by United last year (7-1) they are definately gunning for us.

Its sad (a disgrace actually!) that we lost to Coventry last week in the League Cup. Guess the boys took things for granted and was given a bitch slap! Now the youngsters and new buys won't have a place to play competitive football. Looks like some of em' will be loaned out just to get exposure. Am missing Rossi and Smith. They sure would have given United a slight edge.

Oh well. Am sure the boys will find their momentum soon enuff. I mean at the end of the day we are still the Red Devils! :D

shrimplets...

Remember I posted about 3 of my Cherry Shrimps being pregnant. Well I have been monitoring them every now and then and found only 1 carrying eggs left. So I presumed either the eggs of the other 2 dropped or they hatched and got eaten by the fishies or sucked by my filter. :(

To my surprise when I got back from work earlier, I spotted 2 shrimplets between my Java mosses. :D

Update (30/9/07): I actually still have 2 of em' carrying eggs and the 2 shrimplets are still hanging about the mosses. :D

Finally a scoreline with more than 1 goal. Best part is its against Chelsea. To add to that it was Tevez and Saha who scored. Am praying this would open the floodgates for Tevez, which I doubt but at least its a load of his back. I do have to agree with most that the referee's calls were questionable. I don't however believe that he was bias towards Man United.

Anyways it doesn't matter how you win it as long as you win. The 3 points is definately appreciated. Have to thank Liverpool for drawing their match. Hehe. At least now we are back up there with the top four. :D

ouch!

This morning after a 3 month hiatus, the boys got together for a game of futsal. We were all excited especially laying low for so long. It was a great feeling to finally play again. Been feeling fat recently and it was nice to finally work out.

It was a nice game. Four a side. Only downside was towards the end I pulled my lower back muscle. An old injury I sustained a year ago. Think its from the lack of exercise for so long as well as lack of warming up. Sigh. Now I gotta tolerate the pain for awhile till it heals. :(

Sigh. Am falling into the trap again. Am itchy to get myself a new phone. Main reason is to get one with a good built in camera so I can take random pics for blogging (I know I know its just an excuse). Hehe. So obviously I turn to Sony Ericsson and their Cyber-shot phones. Will never touch Nokia due to how much they suck. Love Motorola but sadly their camera feature will never be up to par. Have used Sony Ericsson before (the T630) but sold it soon after as I didn't like the interface much although it does look good.

Now I just gotta learn to live with it. Hehe. There are some really nice models coming out especially the K850i. Simply amazing. 5 Megapixels with image stabiliser and 40mb built in memory. On top of that you can use MicroSD memory cards. So no more memory sticks which are rather costly. Sadly its gonna be their flagship model and should cost around RM2000 plus. Way over my budget.

Have decided to settle on the K800i with a 3.2 Megapixel. Their ex flagship Cyber-shot phone if I am not mistaken. Price has drop to a reasonable level and it performs really well. Nothing but praises so far. Was actually thinking of the K770i which looks really good and also nice and slim but its more of their style series so certain features were left out to cut cost. Think its also pricier than the K800i by a few hundred at least plus won't be released for a month or so.

Now gotta work on selling my current phone (Motorola ROKR E2). Wish me luck! ;)

Fine we didn't play all that great. Sporting Lisbon looked like the better team. Some interesting shots by them testing Van De Sar to the limit. Sadly MU didn't create much chances but at the end of the day, a win is a win! :D

Nice goal by Ronaldo. Great cross from Wes Brown. Miss those with the absense of Gary Neville. Hope he will return soon. Am worried at the way MU is playing this season. They have scraped by with 1 nil wins but as the league progresses its not gonna be enuff. Can't be riding lady luck for too long ya know. Hope things pick up soon!

On the other hand 2 interesting news. One is that Arsenal is seriously looking like a big threat this season. They have been playing simply amazing football. Best part is they didn't spend like the others in the EPL. They even sold their star, Thierry Henry. All the investment on youngsters are really paying off. I think they will do really well this season.

Best news of all is that Jose Mourinho has left Chelsea. Can't believe it. I have a feeling its more of Abramovich who gave up on the 'special one'. Great news but sad at the same time. He has brought some character into the EPL. Love his comments. Am sure the media is gonna miss him the most. Can't sell that many papers now. Hehe.

Alrighty better get back to work. Glory glory Man Utd! :D

Can't wait I tell ya. Champions League campaign for the Red Devils is to start tonight against Sporting Lisbon. It should be an interesting away match. Heard Rooney will be back so hope things pick up. We have been having a rather dry spell in terms of scoring. Sadly Hargreaves is out as his European exposure would definately be a big boost. Hope we kick off with a bang especially when Liverpool and Chelsea drew their first games.

Late last year I entered a contest by Perodua (Fill & Win) online for the fun of it. Practically forgot about it till I got an SMS early last week from Perodua telling me I won a petrol voucher. So I headed down to my PJ branch at Section 19 earlier to collect it. I wasn't expecting much, say maybe RM10 but surprisingly I won the RM30 Petronas voucher. Not too bad I must say. Good start to the week. Hehe. Nothing like free petrol! :D

This weekend I had the pleasure of entertaining a long time buddy, Poopie and her fiance Dairy Boi. They came up from Singapore for a short break from their hectic lives. Good to have caught up after a really long time. Think the last time we saw each other was around a year plus ago.

Didn't really have to take them anywhere as they've been to KL before. We instead decided just to bum roam around Mid Valley Megamall and KLCC. Only request they had was to enjoy yummy food. Guess no visit to Malaysia is complete without pigging out. Hehe.

max! kitchen & wines...

On Saturday it was Sunshine's birthday and I decided to take her somewhere nice. Been reading about Max! Kitchen & Wines from multiple floggers for awhile now and decided what the heck. Made reservations (a week before) for 8.30pm but like most Malaysians only got there around 9.30pm. Thankfully Max wasn't full and we manage to get a table. We also managed to get parking right in front. ;)

I was kinda set on what to eat but Sunshine took awhile deliberating. She knew she wanted fish but Max! had about 4 odd varieties to choose from. We ended up sharing a starter which was the US Sea Scallops with a Balsamic Reduction. For mains Sunshine had the Cod cooked with Wine and Butter Bean Sauce while I went for the Shiraz Braised Wagyu Beef Cheeks with Mushroom Ragout. To end it all we shared the Crisp Kataifi Pastry with Strawberries and Coconut Ice Cream. For drinks we tried the Mango and Chocolate milkshakes.

Now for the review! :) The dinner started off with the complimentary bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I've had this before at Italiannies but didn't fancy the oil and vinegar combo much. Somehow I really loved Max!'s. Could be the hunger but his balsamic vinegar was much tastier. Sunshine however didn't fancy it but loved the bread as it was nice and soft. Both our drinks were good as well especially the chocolate milkshake. Not sure what cocoa powder they used but its really chocolicious. *droool* Wouldn't mind some right now actually. ;)

Then came the starter which was the scallops and boy were they good. Five plump scallops with a nice balsamic reduction. Fresh and yummy. Couldn't help lapping up the sauce. The grilled chilli slices were a nice touch as well. Also loved the taste of the olives. Very much different from what we usually get. I was expecting sun dried tuna loin slices as read in the menu but didn't get any. Guess its also my fault as I didn't question the waiter or Max about it. Was really interested in tasting the thinly sliced tuna loin. :(


Max! was rather busy so the mains took awhile to come. When it came both dishes looked stunning. First we dug into Sunshine's cod. It was cooked just about right and was really yummy. Love the subtle wine with butter bean sauce. It complimented the cod very well. Sunshine finished the meal with a big smile on her face. :)


Then came my Wagyu Beef Cheeks. Now I have been reading good things about this dish from multiple blogs and was really expecting something magical. Sadly it wasn't all that. The meat was tender and good but I wouldn't call it great. The sauce was just so so. Loved the mushroom variety though. Sunshine made an interesting comment that the beef tasted like something out of a can. LOL. Maybe its an acquired taste but I for one wouldn't order it again especially at RM60. I had to endure Sunshine's teasing for paying so much for canned beef. Arrgghhh.


So the mains turned out 50 50. We still decided to end the meal with a dessert. Now their dessert menu sounds really yummy but both of us didn't have space for much so we decided on sharing one. I read about their kataifi pastry thingy and went for that. When it came it looked real delish but sadly both of us didn't like it much. Somehow the kataifi pastry didn't go well with the strawberries. Would have been nicer if the pastry itself was sweetened. It felt like eating raw Weetabix. Am guessing its another acquired taste sorta dish. The coconut ice cream was also another downer. We kinda expected more (creamier/tastier) due to the price but it was rather simple. Think what we had at Baskin n Robbins was much better. I did however like the fruit salad that accompanied the dish.


All and all I don't think I'll head back to Max! Kitchen and Wines anytime soon. Don't feel that the price justifies the food. I have to admit that presentation wise he doesn't dissappoint. From the plates itself to the dishes. Everything looked stunning! Guess to have a better take I might have to visit during lunch time as I heard the set meal prices are reasonable. Oh well at least I finally got to try Max! out. Hehe. Been hearing about it one too many times already! :)

pregnant shrimps!

OMG. You wouldn't believe this. One hellave surprise I got coming back from work today. After losing almost every fauna in my tank to disease, I have been blessed with 3 pregnant Cherry Shrimps. If you could see the smile on my face right now. Am sooo excited! I didn't really plan for this but WOW. I guess adding all those extra shrimps did help. Now 3 of my seniors are fully loaded. Hehe. Best part is I got pictures to prove it!

From the 2 pics below you can see they're pregnant by their yellow bellies. If only you can have a clearer view. Maybe its just me but its a really amazing feeling. Gives you a great sense of pride in your tank. :)



Below is how my tank is looking right about now. Slight changes since the last time. The plants seem to stabilise now with the added light and better filter. Been having trouble getting nice shots of my tank so these would have to do for now. At least your get the jist of it.


Damn am so excited I can't sleep now. LOL. Now I gotta locate a filter inlet sponge so that if they do successfully pop I don't lose the shrimplets to the filter. Damn I'm gleaming! :D

Update: Follow this link to a nice video showing how Cherry Shrimps release their shrimplets. Hopefully I'll be able to see it in real life. ;)

little penang kafe @ the Curve...

Last night I was at the Curve with Sunshine for dinner. We didn't fancy anything special so decided to try out a place we keep passing by. Its called Little Penang Kafe and they always seem full of people. I googled it before and read some reasonable reviews of this place so we decided why not. Unfortunately it was a big let down. :(

Sunshine had the fried kway teow while I had the chicken nasi lemak. On top of that we shared a bowl of Red Ruby which is a Thai dessert made of diced water chestnut morsels, sweet coconut milk and shaved ice. When the food first came it looked appetising and smelled good but it all went down south once we dug in.

The kway teow reminds me of what we can get for breakfast at malay stalls. You know the ones sold out of a big tray. Only difference being those were only RM1 to RM2 while this cost RM9! The chicken nasi lemak started out okay. The rice was aromatic and tasty while the dash of belacan was yummy. Unfortunately the ghost chicken curry was awful. I can't describe the taste but its really bad. Maybe its something out of Penang and just doesn't suit our taste buds.

All was not lost however as the dessert (Red Ruby) was good. The sweet coconut milk and shaven ice was just about right. Not to mention the yummy morsels of water chestnut and slices of jackfruit. *drool* Red Ruby was always my favourite Thai dessert. Use to have yummy ones at Sri Siam in SS2.

another close call...

Anyone catch the game (MU vs Sunderland) early this morning? I did and boy was it another close one. Yes we did dominate 70% of the game (just like the last 4 games) and had the most chances but at the end of the day, its how many that went to the back of the net that counts!

Fortunately we got through with 3 points. Nice to see Saha back after 1 year 4 months of moaning and bitching injury. Won't comment much on Anderson since it was his first game but am sure with Ole coaching he'll mould into a good striker soon. With Giggsy injured, Chris Eagles started and I have to say hes looking pretty good (except for the hairstyle that is).

I foresee the Red Devils picking up their pace especially with Saha and Ronaldo back. Can't wait for the next game against Everton. The Toffees better watch out!

Happy 50th Birthday Malaysia!

a true legend...

Just moments ago, one of Manchester United's best player informed the world that he is retiring from football at the age of 34. He is none other than Ole Gunnar Solskjær from Norway who joined the Red Devils on 29th July 1996. His retirement was not due to age or the loss of spirit but mainly due to his nagging knee injury. Fortunately he will remain in Manchester United as a coach as well as an official ambassador.

Ole was nicknamed the "Baby Faced Assassin" in his first season due to his youthful looks and clinical finishing. He was famous as a 'super-sub' for always coming in late in a game and scoring the crucial goal. Most Red Devil fans would recall fondly his goal during injury time against Bayern Munich which gave Manchester United the Champions League trophy in 1999. He has served the club well and never caused any problems. A true professional indeed.

A true legend for Manchester United and always a joy to watch. One of the few who plays with a smile on his face. Up there with the likes of Eric Cantona, Ryan Giggs and Roy Keane. Thank you Ole for 11 wonderful years. You have been a wonderful role model in football and will surely continue to be one in the Red Devil camp. :)

Thank god! Finally a win under the belt. Phew. The Red Devils edged Spurs by a single goal in a pretty tensed game at Old Trafford. Both teams needed a win badly after a rocky start to the Premiership especially the Red Devils with only 2 points so far (out of 3 games). What a goal I must add! Nani smashed in from 30 yards at the 68th minute. Don't think any goalie could have stopped it especially with the slight deflection of Tevez.

Man Utd controlled most parts of the game but after Nani's goal it became really tensed with Tottenham pushing forward and our defense making silly mistakes. Rio Ferdinand and Wes Brown saved us twice just before the goal line. Sadly I have to admit we still have a problem up front. All those chances but not a single player to actually slot something in. Hopefully before end of this week when the transfer windows closes we have someone either on loan or permanently.

Oh well, am just glad we finally have 3 points in the bag. Was beginning to worry especially when we were 16th in the league last week. Lowest I've seen us in a looooong while. Hehe. Hope this win will lift the spirits of the boys and they'll kick into gear. Good to see Nani and Hargreaves warming up to the team. Playing really nice football. Can't wait to see when Tevez will finally slot in a goal for the Red Devils. Hopefully its sooner rather than later. ;)

tank updates...

Its been 1.5 months since my tanks was cleaned out due to the Ich outbreak. Since then I just have 1 Cherry Barb, 1 Oto and 5 Cherry Shrimps running about. Got rather bored especially with the tank being bare so got off my butt and went to my favourite LFS (Slippery Little Suckers) down at Damansara Ara.

Bought myself 6 Ember Tetras and 12 more Cherry Shrimps. Hopefully this time around the tank will flourish and no outbreak of any disease. Yes I do know its common to face these sorta things when owning a tank but its rather disheartening. The tetras seem to have warmed up to the tank pretty fast. They are already swimming about happily. Even the shrimps are scattered looking for food.

Am still learning to take clear pictures of my tank. When I do succeed am sure to post up pictures regularly. Sadly for now you just gotta imagine it. Hehe.

i got croc'ed...

Am sorry folks. I fell into the trap. I got a pair of Crocs (Sobek flip flops, pictured right) earlier today. I have been stalling on getting them for months cos I didn't think it was worth the money. Plus previously their original designs were hideous. Sadly they have come up with modern practical designs with safer colors. I just couldn't help myself. Damn you Crocs!

Officially it was to get my old man a pair for his upcoming birthday but after trying the Sobek flip flops I decided what the heck. They are so light and comfy compared to my current Nike sandals. Furthermore its so easy to maintain. All it needs is a simple wash and it'll look like new. At first thought it was a gimmick but my niece has one and its true folks.

Oh well. Damage has been done. I got Croc'ed! :P

PS. I know I know its all lame excuses. Hehe.

durian cendol...

Sorry folks this post is long overdue. Had this on the 7th of July 2007 during Devan's engagement weekend. Sadly time just flew by before I could post about it. Hehe. Anyhoo finally after hearing about it and craving for it, I had a bowl of durian cendol along Jonker Street, Malacca. Think the shop is known as Stall 88 or Kedai Antik 88.

I've had cendol there before and its really yummylicious especially with the extra doses of fresh authentic gula melaka. Thick,sweet and caramel like. *drooool* This time around however my goal was to have some durian cendol. Being the durian season as well as hot as ever in Malacca, it seemed like the best time. Sadly I wasn't too impressed. Think the hype raised my expectations so it fell flat fast. Would have prefered the original cendol from them. Which as hiew88 professed is still top marks!

What they did was pour durian puree (self made I presume) all over the cendol. Somehow the taste didn't work for me. I've had durian ice cream, durian cake, durian dodol and even durian milkshake. They were all heavenly. Unfortunately this didn't tickle my fancy. Guess like all things durian, it caters to selective tastebuds. You either like it or hate it. Anyways I finally got to try it. Next time I'll just stick with the original cendol. :)

Sigh. Its the first loss of the season. Sadly it has to be against freaking Manchester City. Really unfair considering the Red Devils owned the game. Somehow we can't find the back of the net. All those chances squandered. We desperately need a striker. Someone who can finish off the lovely passes. Sigh. Not sure what is Ferguson up to but I hope he has something up his leave. Like a last minute transfer before the windows closes. We can only hope I guess. Am really missing Alan Smith. :(

new toy...

Tommorrow am gonna get my new camera since I have some time to spare. Been without a digicam for about 3 weeks now. I know it ain't long but somehow when I don't have one, I seem to NEED it. I bet when I DO get it, I won't have much use for it. LOL. Anyways am going to get it at Mid Valley since I always get good deals at a particular shop on the 2nd floor (or is it 1st), Key Color. Bought my last digicam and my dad's latest there. Hope to walk away with a good deal if not at least a fair one.

After months of research am deciding on the Canon A570IS. I know its no DSLR but its as close as I can get without forking out more than RM1k. Its the best choice for the price I must add. Plus points include manual mode, high ISO, aperture & shutter priority modes and not forgetting the biggest draw (for me at least) which is image stabiliser. Theres also the Face Detection technology which I ain't too hyped about but a plus point nevertheless.

Now I can't wait to get my hands on it. Hehe. ALWAYS get excited with a new toy! ;)

bad sign...

OMG. Two games and both ended with a draw! Each losing 1 top player. First Rooney out (for 2 fucking months!) with an injury during Reading's game and now Ronaldo (for 3 matches) for a silly red card offence during yesterday's match against Portsmouth. Sigh. Not the best of starts especially against 2 mid level teams. If it was against the top four it would be ok. Now its gonna be an uphill battle to regain the lead and then maintain it.

On the bright side Tevez and Nani finally started. Both showing great promise and once they settle in should do great. Just gotta wait for Hargreaves and Anderson to start or at least play handful of minutes. It looks as if we need a quality finisher. If only Ole or Saha regain fitness. At least then we got options up front. Aarrgghh. Such a frustrating start to the league. On both games we had tonnes of oppurtunity but just couldn't finish it. That is the most frustrating part. So close yet so far. Giggsy seems to be struggling with the central midfield role. He should be left at left wing where he shines. Pump the crosses in and let Scholes or Tevez finish it off.

Big away derby game coming this Sunday. With Manchester City winning their last 2 games and full of energy. Am sure they are dying to open a can of whoop ass. We better pick up the pace and show what we're made off.

review: str8 to the point...

Okay this is gonna be my first review of a music album. Got this album from my mate Teh O Ais aka Ah Bald aka X aka Excaliber. I know I know, way too many nicks but guess hes just confused. Cut him some slack. Hehe. The album is Point Blanc's first solo effort entitled Straight to the Point. Many of you might remember Point from his Poetic Ammo days with Yogi B, Land Slyde and C. Loco. When they came out they were the first successful commercialised Hip Hop act in Malaysia. I have all of their CDs except for the latest, Return of Tha' Boombox.

I have to be honest that I didn't like Point much during his Ammo days. Didn't think he gelled with the group in terms of sound and style. Due to this I was a little hesitant in getting his solo effort. As I worked with Teh O Ais and he is part of Point's crew, I had no choice but to hear him bitch rant about the album day in and day out. Way before the single was even released to the public.

What really caught my interest was when the single Ipoh Mali was released. Radio kept playing it over and over plus I manage to score a MP3 rip. I have to admit it was pretty good. Point was finally doing his own thing and it worked. Plus it was more 'local'. Something I wished most Hip Hop acts in Malaysia would do. We aren't niggers and we definately will never be one. We are Malaysians and we should be proud of that.

Anyways with Ipoh Mali in mind I told Teh O Ais to grab me a copy of the album. Got it about a week plus ago signed by Point himself (thanks!). Dumped it in my car's cd player and gave it a go. The first half of the CD were all Chinese (Cantonese and Hokkien) tracks, which sadly I could only understand about 50%. The beats were nice but without knowing what the hell they were saying I couldn't keep with the flow. Things got better track 16 onwards. I have to say the album is pretty good for his first solo effort. Beats were nice and the lyrics 'local' enough to keep me happy.

The CD can be bought rather cheap for RM19.90. Point decided to lower the price for his fans and am sure its working out well for him. With the quality hes put in its worth every penny. If you are a Hip Hop fan and want to support the local music industry, this album is definately worth ya hard earned money. I wish Point all the luck and if he keeps this up am sure will do well as a solo artiste. :)

review: the simpsons movie...

I was reading all sorts of reviews on The Simpsons Movie and was thinking it might be worth catching it in the theaters. Especially since I am a fan of the cartoon series. Sadly I have to say I should have just waited for the DVD or download. Just like what Homer said at the beginning, why pay for something you get free on TV! Sigh. Am not saying it sucked as it was funny but I do not think its a blockbuster. These sorta shows you can wait for the DVD to be released or better still just wait for Astro to show it.

On top of that the asshole sitting behind me who laughed at every single minute of the show didn't help either. I think some of the crowd were just laughing cos it was 'suppose' to be funny. I doubt they even understood what was happening. Arrgghh. Guess I chose the wrong day.

Storyline wise it was alright. Enough humor packed within the 90 minutes or so to keep you smiling. Especially Spider Pig. Hehe. Typical Simpsons material with all the characters making an appearance. I just didn't leave the cinema feeling satisfied. Felt cheated actually. At least South Park: Bigger, Longer and Un-cut was worth the movie ticket.

Think I'll stop bitching for now. Am sure most of you loved the movie from all the rave reviews but sadly it was a green tomato for me. Would give it 2.5 stars out of 5.

smashing start...

What a great start to the season! A well deserved win by the mighty Red Devils. Edwin van de Sar really proved a point last night by stopping ALL of Chelsea's penalty shots. Hope he keeps this up. It was an entertaining game. I mean not the best but after 2 months plus of no footy it was great. LOL. Both sides were pushing hard to make a dent. Giggsy and Malouda scored superb goals. Sadly it was down to penalties.

I have to admit am impressed with Chelsea's Florent Malouda. Amazing speed and skill. Would have been a great addition to Man Utd. Hes gonna cause a lot of damage this year especially with Drogba. No wonder Mourinho plonked down 14 odd million pounds to get him.

Anyhoo at the end of the day the best team won. Congratulations Red Devils!

The English Premier League is about to kickoff tommorrow with the FA Community Shield (formerly known as Charity Shield) between the mighty Red Devils and the arrogant Blues. To me its like a replay of 2006/2007 FA Cup finals not too long ago. This time around both teams should be well rested and raring to go. Plus who doesn't want a winning start right.

Can't wait I tell ya. Been a long 2 plus months. Now we have something to look forward to each weekend. A reason to drink as well. Hehe. The EPL has been going through some big changes lately with new owners and management, tonnes of new players from abroad as well as transfers between teams. Bitter rivalries being brewed as usual and all sorta hype of whos gonna take it this time around and whos gonna bomb. There also the last minute rush to secure transfers before the deadline end of this month.

The Red Devils themselves have already spent close to 40 million pounds (for Nani, Hargreaves and Anderson) and this is without counting in Tevez whos supposed to come in soon at around 20 odd million pounds. Sadly this meant the departure of some existing players. Two of which will be sorely missed. Alan Smith who has heart and determination and young Giuseppe Rossi who has talent and a great future but was never given a chance at MUFC. Can't blame them as they wanted regular first team action and they won't get it at United. At least Smith is still in the EPL while Rossi has gone to Spain.

Alrighty my pick for teams to look out for this season, besides Manchester United of course. ;)

time for an upgrade...

Ahh finally after months of looking for a buyer I've sold my digicam. It served me well for 1 and half years but with all the new beauties out there I can't help but upgrade. My Nikon Coolpix 4600 was a good camera but the small display was a pain when deciding if the pictures were taken properly. Most of the time I would head home and find out they were blurry or misaligned. Very depressing especially coming back from overseas trips. Can't help it I guess when the screen is only 1.8". Then again when I bought it that was considered pretty good already.

The digicam technology just bloomed soon after. Now there are myriads of designs out there to suit all sorts of usage. Even a Digital SLR isn't all that pricy compared to before. Have been poisoned by many to step into the Digital SLR world but don't feel like putting down that much dough is worth it. Especially when I know my real purpose of owning a digicam. I do love photography but not to the extent of lugging my camera daily and taking shots of everything. I only bring it when I really need it like trips and parties. Even then I tend to rely on my mates to bring theirs and share the pics taken. LOL.

Now its time to research for a new camera. Got a few in mind. Just got to figure out how much am I willing to fork out. Hmmm now lets see whats on dcresource. =)

a new start...

Just 2 weeks since my tank was infected with Ich, I am left with only 1 Cherry Barb and 1 Oto. Thankfully all my shrimps survived. Looks like I have to start fresh. Think my next batch of inhabitants are gonna be mostly shrimps with a school (of 5 to 8) of the same fish. No more small fishies for me cos they are rather sensitive and die off easily with the slightest infection or environmental change. Although they do look so good schooling together. =(

At this moment am thinking of getting some Gold Tetras and maybe a mini pipefish/armoured stickleback (just for the kicks of it). Have recently got myself new lighting with more wattage (2x more than before). Suppose to help with the growth of the ferns and mosses. On top of that I also got myself a mini fan to cool down the water's temp. Which in turn will hopefully make my shrimps breed. No pictures for now but will put em' up when I do take some.

damn flu...

Arrgghh. Hate it when I catch a cold. Damn bug has been going round and round and finally hit me. Now from a flu its turning into a fever. Think the daily drizzle plus all the durian didn't help either. Sigh. Gonna lay low for a bit till it goes away. =(

sour grapes...

Am sure most of you are aware of the Harry Potter 7 saga between the hypermarkets (Carrefour and Tesco) and 4 local bookstore chains (MPH, Popular, Times and Harris). The bookstores were upset that the hypermarkets are selling the book way below retail price (RM69.90 compared to RM109.90) and they retaliated by boycotting the sale of the book from the opening day itself. Tonnes of people were pissed when they started lining up since wee hours of the morning only to go back empty handed. The 'silent protest' ended today with the 4 bookstores deciding to finally sell the book. Best part at a discounted rate.

What is your take on this whole fiasco? In my opinion the bookstores are a bunch of sour grapes. Boo hoo, did the big bad wolf take away ya cookies?? At least they are willing to sell for a loss (eventhough they benefit from it) and give the oppurtunity to those less fortunate to get hold of the book. Aren't we suppose to PROMOTE reading in Malaysia?! Its already a damn shame that books and magazines cost a bomb. Haven't you heard of fair game? If someone can provide something cheaper, isn't it their choice as well as the consumers benefit. Plus so what someone else sells it cheaper, their stock will definately run out and then people will come to you. Borders didn't bitch and whine and within a day or so were sold out!

At the end of the day the bookstores should know that buying books in Malaysia is down to a selective market. Due to the high cost only those with high income or genuine interest would actually put down their money for a decent read. Others who can't afford or have other financial priorities will most probably rent or borrow it. With this in mind, book aficionados will definately head to the nearest bookstore and get their supply instead of a freaking hypermarket. This is due to the ambiance, the choice of books plus the loyalty they have towards a particular bookstore. Your so called niche market is always going to be there. The boycott will only make your loyal customers to steer clear of your bookstore and patronise someone else like Borders or Kinokuniya. Furthermore what the hypermarkets are doing will create more book lovers who in turn will have to go to your bookstore to get more books!

Stop being a cry baby and accept that the market will definately change as time passes. In business there will always be competition. Someone is always around to try and provide something cheaper (although doesn't necessarily mean better) in the hopes of grabbing the market. You can't expect the government to put a leash on everything. They have to think about consumers who are the majority. Instead of wasting time bitchin' should have at least come up with a marketing strategy. Like offering free caps, pens, poster or movie ticket. One can even tie in with some other product that is trying to jump on the Harry Potter bandwagon. Like say pick up Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows today and get a Kit Kat free! Wouldn't that make you wanna get the book? ;)

Sigh. After a handful of days since the Ich outbreak, my tank has been cleaned out. Only 2 Cherry Barbs and the lone Oto left. Thankfully my shrimps are alive and kicking. Am not planning to get any fishies for now. Let the tank stabilise and see if the rest survive. Gotta make sure the damn Ich is gone for good. =(

overhaul...

A complete overhaul! That is what our national football team needs. More so after another thrashing last night. We have the facilities and the gear, but without heart and talent, all of that won't matter. Scrap the team and the management and start from scratch. Who cares if we can't compete internationally for a few years. Not like we are doing well anyways. We are dropping further and further down the FIFA World rankings (157th as of today!!). Sigh.

Miss the 70s and 80s when Malaysia was a team to be afraid off in East Asia. Used to be interested in local football then. Even had a flag and jersey. Now Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand have all gone past us. Even Sri Lanka!! Arrgghhh. I am sure there is talent in Malaysia just that there is too much political bullshit. Please please do a complete overhaul. Get Shebby in as coach and give him full control. Am sure he will be able to get a team together or whip this current team in shape.

sick fishies...

Arrgghh. My poor fishies have been infected with Ich or more commonly known as White Spot disease. Not really sure how they got it as it can happen due to many reasons plus its rather common. Sigh. My poor babies. Just rushed to the LFS this morning to get some medication. Gonna start treatment which will last about 12 plus days. Really hope they survive this and not slip away one by one. =(

Poor tank is all blue now from the meds. Guess I gotta put on hold my plan to add more fishies. No wonder they were rather down last couple of days. Avoiding food and staying above the tank. All symptoms of Ich. Oh well its something all aquaria hobbyist gotta go through. At least now I have the medication on standby. Hehe.

Who is Kate? Well this is loooong overdue. My baby is already 2 years old and I have yet to name her. Time seem to have just flown by. Anyways she finally has a name and its Kate. Now all of the names I picked for my cars have relation to something, be it comics (Betty) or after my dog (Max). This time around its after a character from the TV series Lost.

Just like in the series my baby is sexy, strong, agile and independent. Hehe. This time around its going to be a long term investment. Don't think with the current changes in our automotive policy that I can afford to sell or trade her in the future. So far I've gotten her nice shoes, leathered her up, put in a sweet sound system and gave her a nice growl.

Next up would be some new brake discs, fully adjustable suspension and a nice wax job. Am gonna take real good care of Kate. Then again I always did take care of my cars even if I only had it for a few months. Still my one and only prized asset. =)

congratulations...

Would like to take this oppurtunity to congratulate Mr. Devanandan Palmer Batumalai and Miss Tharsani Krishnasamy on their recent engagement on 07/07/07. It was a nice homely ceremony and am glad to be included. Will blog more about the trip and post pics later in the week.

Now am just waiting for the big day. Hehe. May I suggest 08/08/08. ;)

road trip...

Been awhile but another road trip to Malacca this weekend. As you all are aware tommorrow is 7/7/07. A unique date that many are calling auspicious and have planned various things around it. From dinner dates to parties to getting hitched.

A whole bunch of us is heading down to Malacca for Devan's engagement to Tasha. Usually engagements aren't that big a deal (at least that is what I think) but Devan has planned a big do. Hmmm or maybe Tasha and their parents are the ones who is making it a big event. Hehe. Think the guest list is about 100 plus and still growing! Devan said about 20 odd are family and the rest are friends (from near and far) from both sides.

Will blog about it more once am back. Hopefully with pictures as well. Cheers folks...

tank updates...

Sad news. Got back from work around 1am and found 2 fishies dead (1 Cherry Barb and 1 Mosquito Rasbora). Think my water temp is pretty high especially with the current heat wave and its affecting the fishies. Hope more won't suffer. Gotta go out and get a fan to at least lower the temp a bit. Notice it gets hotter when my tank light is on.

My plants seem to have stabilised. At least they aren't turning brown. Hope they keep it up. Think I'll improve the lighting and cooling first before I get more fishies. My new filter has run in now so I can dump my older filter. Tried flogging it off the Malaysian Aquascaping Club forum but no one seems interested.

Alrighty think I'll hit the sack now. Been rather tired last few days. Gd' nite folks!

review: transformers...

Finally after almost 2 years of waiting its out. Its been released for just barely a week now and everyone is talking about it. From the Ramli Burger guy down the street to my managers in 3rd floor to lil' kids in primary school who hasn't even seen the original cartoon in the 80s. I know some who have seen it multiple times and are still planning to go see it summore. Tickets have been booked for weeks in advance. Think most shows except for the early ones are packed.

Most people my generation will definately feel at home with this movie. We practically grew up with it. When I heard Speilberg and Michael Bay are teaming up to make a live action version of Transformers, I was ecstatic. I remember checking their website every now and then for updates and keep seeing the release date being pushed back. Thought it would never come true. Boy am I glad I was wrong!

Ok enuff of rambling, lets get to the movie. This movie is simply the BOMB! It definately lives up to all the hype it has raised. Amazing effects, great acting, stellar sound and well put storyline. Yes people were bitching that the human side of things were too long but I guess a 100% robot movie wouldn't really work. I would love to see it but when it comes to selling to the masses it would fizzle out plus cost a pretty penny. Am amazed at how they managed to replicate the robots transforming, the sound effects, the fight scenes and the mingling with humankind. Just the transforming and sound itself is worth going for another watch. The only thing that disappointed me was their decision to make Bumblebee into a stupid Camaro. Guess they did that to appeal to the damn yanks. From the looks of it theres a hint of a sequel at the end of the movie. Am sure most would agree that a sequel is a big welcome.

All and all I would definately recommend this movie to everyone. It is by far the best movie I've seen all year. Am not saying its Oscar worthy (except maybe for the sound and visual side of things), but as an all rounder its TOPS! If you haven't seen it you better hit the cinemas before its too late. This is definately one movie you wouldn't want to stinge on a pirated DVD. Cinemas were made for these, especially THX certified ones! Hmmm think I'll head down myself for another viewing.

Yes you guessed it! I turned 28 about 2 hours ago. Time surely flies. It seemed like only yesterday I was in Bar Savannah getting drunk during the World Cup quarterfinals game between England and Portugal. This time around its gonna be a sober celebration. Just gonna hang out with Sunshine, have a good dinner and hopefully catch the late night showing of Transformers.

As usual when it comes near my birthday I usually just wish it would pass by as quickly as possible. Not sure why but never really fancied celebrating my birthday although almost always I have done something or rather. Hehe. Guess even though I don't look forward to it, I also don't wanna sit around doing nothing. Theres always the option of treating myself to something. =)

Okay time for the wishes, hopes and dreams. Generally its always the same. Career advancement, adding more assets to my name, bla bla bla. Lemme try to wish for something more attainable. Hopefully this year I'll get my hands on a new digital camera. Plus I hope to get a whole load of stuff for my baby. New rims, bodykit, fully adjustable suspension and if all goes well, might even turbocharge it. Hope to also travel overseas with Sunshine although don't really have anywhere in mind for now. Maybe somewhere nearby like Bali, Indonesia or Siem Reap, Cambodia.

kfc's black pepper chicken chop...

I'm sure most of you have seen or heard of KFC's new Black Pepper Chicken Chop Combo. Ads are on newspapers, telly as well as radio. Previously they released the O.R Chicken Chop combo which was a hit. It came with mushroom gravy, side of large fries, coleslaw (with raisins in it) and a soda. I didn't try it then but this time around I thought why not since they were a success before. How unfortunately wrong! =(

Hiew and I headed down to KFC (along Jalan University) for dinner as we were fed up of thinking of what to eat. Both of us got there and ordered the KFC Black Pepper Chicken Chop combo and added on the 7UP Revive drink (for only 90 cents). The combo consist of the chicken chop (with a cup of the black pepper sauce) , a cup of creamy musroom soup, some crinkle cut fries, a scoop of coleslaw and a butter bun. All for only RM9.90. Sounds tempting doesn't it. We were excited as well till we started digging in.

The so called mushroom soup tasted like creamy flour. The fries were ok but cold/stale. Coleslaw and bun were the usual stuff from KFC so no complaints there. Now for the main course. The chicken chop itself was so so but the worse part is the black pepper sauce. I'm pretty sure my niece (who is 4 this year) can make a much better sauce. It was a powdery and runny mess. It did taste like pepper but for what we paid we might as well enjoy chicken chop at the roadside western stalls. Much better sauce and their meat are just as good. It was really disappointing. Should have just enjoyed their Original Snack Plate which is so much cheaper and rarely disappoints.

Oh well. Guess we wouldn't have known if we never tried it right. Would recommend you guys to give it a pass. Another flop after the Alaskan Fish Burger and the Fish N Chips. Alrighty enuff of ranting. Hehe. Time to enjoy my Milo Nuggets which I got at 7 Eleven. Toodles.

shes turning 2...

Wow time surely flies. My baby is TWO years old today! Hehe. I know I know its a tad bit over dramatic but what the heck. This time around shes done quite a bit (already hitting 31000 kms) of travelling compared to Betty (who was like 18000 kms when she turned 2). Have been a lot of places with her and surpringly have not given her a name. I need to come up with something real soon cos its unfair considering I named all my previous cars very soon after owning them. Time just flew by I guess.

Am thinking of getting her some new rims. Need to offload my current ones first to generate the necessary moolah. Am also thinking of a bodykit but not sure how much am willing to plonk down. If I go cheap it wouldn't be rather fragile but to be strong its pretty pricy. Almost 2x the price. Might also consider adjustable suspensions. Sigh. I see a lot of money flying out the window soon. Then again I've managed to control my spending on this car. Haven't really done much.

Happy 2nd Birthday dear! Looking forward to many more adventures together. Lots of road trips lined up in the future am sure. =)

tank updates...

Just got back from the LFS (local fish shop) with some new fishies for my tank. Also got myself some quality fish food and a new Eheim HOB (hang on back) filter. Got myself 12 Mosquito Rasboras and 1 Otocinclus Catfish (algae clean up crew). Sadly 2 of the rasboras died due to jumping out of the bowl when trying to acclimatize them. Didn't notice almost 2 hours later when I spotted a tiny fish on the bathroom floor. =(

The rasboras are so freaking small. Think I'll definately be needing more to fill up the tank. They are a sight to see especially when they are schooling. Very nice color on them. Am sure if they were bigger they would be pretty popular. Think next weekend I'll get 12 more. Their maximum growth is only 1 inch so nothing to worry about. Hmm maybe I'll get another variety which is much more expensive (up to 3x). Their known as Galaxy Rasbora and when first founded (in Myanmar) almost 10 months ago, cost almost RM20 a piece! Now with self breeding its dropped to about RM6.50. Their interest has also dropped among aquarium enthusiast as they were so over caught that their population dwindled drastically.

Alrighty time to hit the showers. Got my hair cut earlier today and need to wash up. Gd' night folks!

crime alert...

Crime seem to be getting too rampant in our parts of the world. Johor is in one big mess till they had to reinforce the police presence (wonder how long that will last!). It was so bad there that gang rapes occurred every few hours. Its sad to hear this considering how our country has supposedly 'grown'. Fifty years of independance is coming up soon but when it comes to safety I think we were much safer those days. Now we can't even wash our cars on the front porch with the gates open. Can't even take a stroll through the park without worrying. And these are all during broad daylight so you can forget about nights. Sigh.

Yesterday my bro's car got broken into. Smash and grab. He was having his haircut (around 10am nearby Wisma FAM) and parked not too far from the barber. Someone smashed his rear window and grabbed a bag he had on his seat. It wasn't even a laptop bag, just a bag that looks similar. Yes it was his fault for leaving it in the open but still. Thankfully nothing valuable in the bag and they didn't take the other stuff in the car. Only loss was the the window repair which cost him RM180.

Previous Sunday one of my colleagues was almost a victim of a car jacking. Worst part was this happened not too far from a freakin' police station! He stopped for a red light just above the Brickfields police station (and Nagas Restaurant). One car came from behind and slammed into him. He drove slightly in front as he was in a Mitsubishi Storm and the car could have gone under his pickup bed. He then noticed a Kancil with 4 fellas by his side. They didn't move even though the light turned green. The people in the car that slammed into him didn't move as well. Suddenly out of nowhere 2 fellas came up to his truck and accused him of driving poorly and to come out and talk. One of the dudes put his hand in to turn the ignition off. My colleague punched him under the chin and drove off slowly in front. None of them gave chase. He then made a round and went to the police station. The officer in duty said he was lucky as it happens quite often. Colleague told him to go chase after em' since the car that knocked into his pickup had a blown radiator (fluid all over my friend's ride). Guess what our great cop said? 'Take down this number, if anyone is chasing you give us a call.' and he left it at that. Can you believe that?! No wonder crime goes on wildly nowadays. Damn cops couldn't give two shits.

Its a sad thought actually. No wonder people are migrating or finding ways to work overseas. If only the police will buck up and not give all sorts of false promises. Wearing a badge isn't enuff. Do the freaking work dammit! You already have gotten your pay raises right?! Arrrgghh. Guess the only thing we can do is be extra cautious of our surroundings. Take care folks and look out for each other cos the police ain't gonna do it. =(

Sigh. Seems to be a pattern this year. Almost every Thursday something crappy happens. A lil' too creepy to be coincidental I must add. Sigh.

broadband in malaysia...

Not too long ago I received a flier from TM Net (my wonderful ISP) on Streamlessyx. It was advertising a very interesting offer which grabbed my attention. Upgrade to 1Mb speed for only RM1 for the first 3 months following which my rate is increased from RM66 to RM77. Only RM11 for an upgrade of 2x the speed. Not bad ha. Then I browsed down on the terms and conditions (the good ole' FINE print) for the catch. Lo and behold point 4 caught my attention.

iv. Speed of service is on best effort basis.

LOL. They just wiped ALL responsibility of providing the service. Its like you pay for the highest speed, but sorry ar, we cannot confirm you'll get it. We'll try our best though. Haha. Wtf is that?! Just because you hold the damn monopoly of such a service doesn't mean you can do what you like dammit! There should be some form of control on this. How the fuck can you go about providing broadband to the nation but wipe all responsibility like you are doing us a favor. Damn MCMC should do something about this. Arrggghh.

Its 2.5 months now and I think its safe to say that my tank is in stable condition. Fishes survived the new tank ordeal and all (although I can't spot them at the same time) my new shrimps seem to be strolling about happily. Did my regular water change last weekend and had to trim off majority of my java fern. All the leaves went brown and were withering away. Now that shrub looks so sparse. Guess its better since the lighting in my tank is low, so the remainder can survive now. I hope. ;)

With the help (donation) from $1 I added a new plant (Dwarf Sagittaria) in my tank. This is a grassy variety and is able to survive under low maintanance plus grow wildly. Looks nice due to its long thin leaves and fishies seem to love swimming through em'. Hope they fair better than my ferns. It does make the landscape more natural and helps fill up the tank. Have planted shoots on both back corners and a handful in the front middle. Will take pics when I have the time and post em' up for a clearer picture.

Hoping to add more fishies by end of this month. The variety of fish that I want, Mosquito Rasbora are in stock and pretty decently priced. Can't wait to fill up the tank and make it alot more livelier.

comfort...

We all have various ways of soothing our mind and soul. Theres music, movies, a good book, sound sleep, a night out and of course the all time favourite, fooood! From time to time we all need some form of comforting. Doesn't mean we are down and out, its just something we need to keep us going. Jump start of sorts. Below are what I do for comfort.

1. Play games on my Nintendo DS Lite.
2. Spending time with Sunshine.
3. Take a long drive listening to my favourite tunes.
4. Watching a movie.
5. Some cold beers with the mates.
6. Reading a book/comic/magazine.
7. Playing futsal with the boys.
8. Enjoying a good meal at various places. The list is pretty extensive so decided against mentioning em'. Hehe.

I guess the most often cure for now is spending time with Sunshine and enjoying a good meal. Sadly eating isn't really a good source of comfort cos you end up gaining weight. LOL. I've already gained all that I've lost in the previous months. Then again, rather have my happiness than a lil extra weight. ;)

dumb bitch!

Something really annoyed me on Wednesday night that I just have to bitch about. I was chilling at Baskin Robbins, Bangsar with Sunshine enjoying my Banana Royale while checking out the party crowd. As usual you have people who double park and then rush to move the car when people honk. This poor Savvy dude was stuck and kept honking for like 20 odd minutes before this bitchy gal cooly saunts over to her Civic and moves it, ignoring the owner that she blocked and even signalling to park at his spot as well. Surprisingly the Savvy owner was patient and just drove off. No telling off or showing the finger. Bitch then struggled to park her car and ran back to her partying.

Barely couple of minutes after she left her car, it starts blaring. As expected shes not gonna hear it so it goes on and off every now and then. Thankfully Civic's siren is rather soft so it didn't annoy us that much but something then something caught my eyes which did. Bitch had a poor puppy (either a Shih Tzu or Silky Terrier) in her car! She didn't have any windows down or even left any water/food for the lil' fler. We were there for about 30 odd minutes and she didn't return. I bet you she wouldn't have gone back to the car for like hours. Why the fuck would you bring your dog if you plan to party all night long? You expect the poor fella to survive inside that stuffy cramped car?! How would you like it if we locked you up in a tin can without food or water for a handful of hours. Stupid bitch. She couldn't even have the heart to check on the fler every now and then. Sigh. How cruel can you get? I hope the puppy defecated/peed all over her new Civic. Arrrggh. If only we were like Western countries whereby she can be fined or brought to court for animal cruelty. I karma kicks her right in the ass. Dumb bitch!

damn rain!!!

Arrggghh. The last handful of days have been a real bitch. All we got is rain, rain and more rain and its still freaking raining! The best part is I was on leave the last 3 days. Sucks when you wanna chill but the damn weather doesn't oblige. KL was hit pretty bad with flash floods causing havoc to traders and vehicle owners. Pictures below show the extent of the damage. Hope I never get stuck in such a situation.

Rainy days always remind me of the kiddy rhyme below. At times I keep playing it over and over again in my head.
