uncle cheng special beef at section 17, pj...

Another ancient post. Should have posted this about 6 months ago. Uncle Cheng's Special Beef Noodle does not really need an introduction. Many floggers have already written about this place and a simple Google search will yield dozens of reviews.

Many people might struggle to find this place as its located deep within Section 17, PJ. Although with the popularity of 6 to 10 Grill & Nasi Lemak, My Elephant and Food Foundary am sure you'll find ya way somehow. ;)

Everything sold by Julian (son of the original Uncle Cheng) are beef related. You have beef noodles (dry or soup), beef tenderloin (in broth), mixed beef (tripe, meatballs, beef slices in broth), dry beef slices and even bone marrow soup. The latter of the 2 are rather special so they aren't available daily and runs out real fast if they do! :(

Unfortunately I have only tried their beef noodles (both dry and soup) and boy are they yummy! The meat slices are juicy and tender while the beef ball is nice and springy. I remember trying beef noodles in Seremban where the sauce was over powering but Uncle Cheng's is just nice. Doesn't give you that jelak feeling. I also like the sprinkle of preserved cabbage and peanuts. Gives a nice crunch and break of taste from the beefy contents.

However if you like something soupy you can always go for the beef soup. The broth used is full of flavor and smells heavenly. Even the dry variety gets a bowl of it and without fail it will be slurped till the last drop! :D

This is the best place to get my fix of beef noodles. Always consistent and Julian is a very friendly chap. More than willing to chit chat. Give this place a try if you are in the vicinity. You won't walk away disappointed.

bumblebee...

This was supposed to be posted on the 19th of May 2008. Its a gift my old man bought for my lovely nuisance of of a niece. I actually wanted to take before and after pics but sadly I still haven't figured out how to transform the blady thing.

At the end I just gave up and kept it in my display cabinet. LOL. Go figure!

micro buggy...

As you know I bought an rc truggy recently. While researching on what to invest in, I came across micro buggies. They were from Takara Tomy under their Q-Steer series, which are micro rc vehicles. Its actually a collaboration effort between Tamiya and Takara Tomy to create micro scaled replicas of Tamiya's infamous offroad buggies. It comes with proper suspension and a slightly more powerful motor.

The moment I saw it I had to get my hands on one. I read online that they were rather hard to come by in Malaysia as they came in limited supply but that didn't deter me. Today I headed out to 1Utama to check out Toys R Us. Sadly none there. Then I went straight into Jaya Jusco's toy section and lo and behold, there was ONE box left! :D

It wasn't really the model I wanted but hey beggars can't be choosers right?! So now I am a proud owner of The Frog micro buggy (RM59.90). Damn this baby can run and its fun to ride em' all over the room. The added suspension helps as it can run on my bed or keyboard without issues. Hehe. I know I know I sound like a kid. :P

To give you a little perspective on how small this bugger is. Ain't it cute? LOL. If only I can get my mates to all get one then we can be racing about in office or something. Great way to release stress I tell ya! ;)

another rush...

Sigh. Looks like another round of long hours, stressful moments and moodiness on the way. We are going live this Monday and we barely have a handful of days left to get ready. A freakin' rush job that we aren't even allowed to voice out.

Anyhoo that is work life right. Just hope it will go by smoothly and I will be allowed to take my planned holiday at Ruby's Resort, Cherating come Thanksgiving. Been really looking forward to it.

Wish me luck folks! ;)

hbx springbok-x...

I couldn't wait. It was bothering me day and night. I just had to get one! So today I went down to Ikano Power Center and into RC Planet. Looked around a bit at all the options and finally settled on what I was planning to get. A grey/orange HBX Springbok-X 4WD Truggy which cost me RM399.

It was actually a toss between this and a 1/10th scale Kyosho Lazer ZX5 which cost RM850. Uha. 2 times the price. Decision was down to the fact that I won't be playing this much and more like to pass time and release tension. Hence would be wise not to plonk down too much money into it. Hehe.

Haven't fully played the truggy yet but the test drive at the shop was amazing. Didn't expect it to run that fast. Worth the money I would say especially for a part time hobby. Can't wait for tommorrow when I can tear it up outside. :D

rc itch...

I know I know. What now?! LOL. Sorry folks but I've got a new itch and its to get myself a radio controlled (rc) vehicle. Moving more towards a buggy as I want to play it outdoors but the touring cars are pretty neat. Hmmm...

Its been a long time since I last played remote control cars but suddenly I feel like getting one for myself. The last one I owned was a 1:10 scale electric powered Tamiya Calsonic Nissan Primera back in 1991 or so. Had to build that car from scratch and it was a proud moment when it finally ran. Sadly though I was rather young and it got damaged running on our roads. Never figured out how to fix it, neither had the money so the car went into cold storage. Its actually still sitting pretty in my cupboard. Unfortunately none of the electric parts or radio control works while the batteries are dead. Its too old to rebuild as parts are hard to come by.

I don't really have time to build a car from the ground up so am looking for a Ready to Run (RTR) kit. Gonna stick to electric powered as the nitro ones are rather pricy to buy as well as maintain. Although those buggers can really fly! Now its more about how much should I really invest. LOL. I know this hobby ain't gonna last long so it doesn't sound right to plonk down much. Am still researching on the brands and what scale I should get. Its between 1:18 to 1:16 or 1:10. Although the latter is too big for my purpose.

Below are some models that I am currently drooling over. ;)

kluang station at ikano power center, kl...

This is one of the few posts which I have kept in draft mode for ages. Have always been interested in trying out this place ever since I saw them at Ikano Power Center. Especially when I saw that they serve Hainanese Chicken Chop. *droools*

This outlet of Kluang Station is located on the 2nd floor if I am not mistaken. Anyways you can't miss it, as you go up the escalator you'll see it in front of you no matter what floor you are on.

Sunshine and I have actually eaten here twice. Both times I had the same thing which am sure you can guess what while Sunshine tried something different.

Her first round she had the Nasi Lemak (RM4). This was pretty good as the rice was fragrant and the sambal had a good mix of chili and belacan. Sadly though for the price I don't think its justified for plain nasi lemak but thats mall dining for you right!

Sunshine's 2nd fare wasn't any better. This time it was the Beef Rendang Rice (RM8.90). This dish was rather dry and plain tasting. As you can see from the picture it isn't even pleasing to the eyes. I would pick any stall located throughout Klang Valley and they would serve much better rendang and way cheaper too.

Now its my turn. Considering I ate it twice you should realise that I was a happy camper with my choice which was the Hainanese Chicken Chop (RM10.90). Although not as good as Yut Kee in KL but good enuff for something close to home. The chop itself was fried just about right with a crispy egg batter crust and the gravy had enuff onions and mushrooms to be lapped up on its own. The green peas on top was also a nice touch.

Overall I guess I would only return for the Chicken Chop. Everything else isn't really up to par and the drinks isn't much to shout about. So if you are a fan of Hainanese Chicken Chop, you might want to give this joint a try. :D

are you still there?

Sorry folks. I know Tha Poopshoot has been rather quiet lately. Longer periods of silence than usual. I haven't given up or am rantless (if thats even a word!) but just that have been busy with work. Just got an account settled in and now another is coming up. Sigh.

On a plus note its keeping me on my toes. Plus not to mention I lost 1 kilo. LOL. Never felt so grateful for weekends before. Best part is am just happy to bum it away at home. ;)

Will try to blog more but I have my doubts till the new account goes live and settles. Should take 2 months or so. I hope. Wish me luck!

wipe out...

Sigh. My poor fishies. I knew I shouldn't have bought the guppies at the fish shop located in TTDI. Should have followed my gut feeling. They were infected with Ich or Whitespot disease.

Now the disease has taken all of my fishies except for 1 male guppy and 1 Ember tetra. Arrgggh. The first of them to go was the pioneer fish in my tank, a Cherry Barb. Somehow the medication didn't work and as the days went more and more perished.

Sigh. So sad to see my lifeless tank. Am gonna wait till this 2 go or give it a month or so before I restock it. Wanna make sure that stupid parasitic disease is irradicated. :(

oktoberfest...

I came back from work today and saw something on the dining table. Nosy me opened up the plastic bag and guess what caught my eyes? Hmm Paulaner. :D

I still wasn't sure what it was so I took it out of the bag. Damn it was a huge beer mug. An Oktoberfest commemorative Paulaner Munchen beer mug to be exact. But then the best part is yet to come. Guess what was inside the mug itself?

A 1 litre can of Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier. Yup 1 freaking liter! *drooooooool* Its now sitting in the fridge. Itching to pop it open I tell ya. Sadly its my dad's. So I'll just have to imagine drinking it. LOL.

kate unleashed!

This has been looong time coming. Got the Kate back after the final mods and tuning almost 3 weeks ago. Been too busy to give a writeup on my baby. Not to mention not much time to drive her around.

First up lets see what the gains are. With a boost of 0.5, the HP is at 109.8 @ 5420rpms on wheel. Not as high as I would like it to be as he managed 125whp with an auto Myvi, but he said it was hard getting the right fuel ratio to match so I won't run too lean. Least its still about 40% improvement or so. How about the torque you say? Well Kate managed to hit 160nm @ 4000rpms. Yup not bad at all. Same thing that crossed my mind. :D

Now numbers are one thing but how is the ride that matters right? Well the day I picked Kate up I couldn't really give her a run. Good ole Murphy's Law kicked in and it was raining cats and dogs. LOL. I finally got to test her out about 2 or 3 days after. Decided to go for a run during my lunch time. ;)

Performance wise I can now feel the pull of the added torque. 1st and 2nd gears don't really give that much of a thrill but 3rd onwards is a real joy. I managed to hit 180kph from 120kph on 5th gear. Previously the car would be struggling to climb in 5th and I would never hit anything past 160kph. As expected there is a lag in 1st and 2nd but that doesn't mean no gains. My old man was the one who commented that its much torquer in 1st and 2nd now. He uses it to hit the sundry shop once in awhile and noticed the difference immediately. Considering hes used to driving his Civic 2.0 I would take that as a compliment. Hehe.

Besides the bolt on turbo. the new suspension is also money well spent. Myvi's stock was stiff and very bouncy while now its as stiff but more secure and doesn't bounce around. The rebound is just about right. Even tried it with 4 heavy adults and it doesn't bottom out. Lowering it to 2 fingers also helps reduce the center of gravity and improve the overall handling. Feel more confident now especially with the added power. Sweeet.

Thats all for now folks. Toodles!

tank updates...

Wow its been almost 6 months since I last blogged about my fish tank. Sadly though its been a rough time for the tank. Due to work I have been too busy to clean up the tank on a regular basis. On top of that I also miss feeding the fishies in a timely manner. The recent house renovation didn't help either with all the dust and moving around.

In the last 3 months or so I have lost most of my fishes. Just before today I only had 3 Cherry Barbs, 2 Amber Tetras and around 7 odd shrimps left. :(

I finally got off my ass and cleaned up the tank. As you can see the plants are still live and well but the tanks is rather empty. Not sure if you can notice but I decided to get slightly bigger fish as the would be hardier. So I invested in 5 guppies, 3 males and 2 females.

I hope I'll be able to maintain the tank better this time around. Kinda sad to lose all those fishes and shrimps. Lets see how it goes. ;)

ready to navigate?

Most of you guys should be aware that I've been looking for a cheap GPS unit for awhile now. Even wanted to get a China made one (RM300 odd) but heard lots of problems with it. Then Sony Ericsson came up with a new phon with built in GPS but heard its via the Internet so thats gonna take up lots of money as well time just to load up.

I started mulling it over and decided why not just spend and get something good and solid. So I researched on Gophers. Sounded alright for RM888 you get it preloaded with maps of Malaysia and Singapore. Furthermore its Msian so after sales 'should' be good. Then I recalled that my aunty from US was visiting soon. I checked online and surprisingly you can get a Garmin (who are the gurus of portable GPS units) unit for around USD150 and above. Thats not bad, even cheaper than the local made ones!

So now am roaming around with a Garmin nuvi 205w. Pretty cool stuff I tell ya! Manage to download a free Malaysia and Singapore map from MalsingMaps. Headed down the road and got it set up. Needed an open space for the first setup process to lock on to the satellites. After that it was smooth sailing.

Tommorrow am heading to Port Dickson for some prayers. Gonna give this baby a go and see how she fares. Heard the maps are really detailed so am eager to try it out. Gotta say its worth every penny. Great for when getting around Kuala Lumpur. Those of you who know me should know how bad I am with KL. :(

phones back...

Finally after 1 week plus my phone is back. Supposedly nothing was wrong and a software flash was all it needed. Hmmm hope thats true. The warranty is gonna run out in the next 2 weeks and I don't want it to die out on me again after that. Now that would be a real bitch!

Last I need is to be spending anymore money. Been blowing alot on Kate, birthday gifts as well as some new toys. Gotta lay low for the rest of the year from the looks of it. Hehe.

Never knew how much I depended on my K800i. Couldn't take pictures. Had to bear with lousy ringtones. Struggle to SMS. Everything on a Nokia is backwards. LOL. What a nightmare?!

Its ok. All back to normal now. Phew. :D

music head...

My aunty from US came visiting again. This time around she brought 2 yummy toys for me. Hehe. First up is the brand spanking new Apple Ipod Nano. To be exact its the shiny purple 8GB version (USD149).

To be honest am not really a fan of Apple. Would rather spend less and get a Sony or Creative MP3 player but since my aunty was springing for it I thought what the heck! ;) Although I did overhear my dad saying he'll pay for it. Hmmm...

This newer Nano variety has some new techno enhancements like the accelerometer which allows the gadget to shuffle songs when shaken or switch between portrait and landscape display modes. Also comes with 'Genius' which automatically creates playlists based on a selected song using an algorithm built by Apple. Not sure how 'smart' it can be but interesting idea I guess.

The design is also much nicer. It has a curved aluminum shell and glass screen. Supposedly its "the most environmentally friendly iPod [Apple] has ever made", containing arsenic-free glass and a BFR-, mercury-, and PVC-free design. It is also claimed to be highly recyclable. Doubt that really matter though. LOL.

All and all its a pretty nifty toy. I like the touch rotating pad as well as the crystal clear screen. Would prefer better earbuds though but I guess I can get some 3rd party ones. Now I gotta look for a suitable casing so that I can maintain the shiny metallic shell. If not it will be scarred in no time.

Guess I'll be chillin' with some cool tunes for awhile. ;)

what luck...

Boy what luck I tell ya! As you are aware I was off for a road trip to Cherating over the weekend with Sunshine and Kate. It was Kate's first long drive after the transformation. Everything was perfect till we got back Monday. I had just dropped Sunshine home when my AC seemed dead. Only warm air came out. I found that puzzling and thought maybe it needed some gas.

Didn't think much of it as I was so freakin' tired till I reached towards my home and the damn car was heating up! The needle was all the way to the top. At home I popped the hood and found out the radiator had been drained clean. It was leaking somewhere but all I could think of was how thankful I am that it happened when I was back in Klang Valley.

Imagine it happening while in Pahang or Terengganu?! Who the hell is gonna help me out then? LOL. Now that would have been some serious arseluck! Oh well, Kate is now back at the shop. Turns out a hose clip was loose, so at a certain temp it'll start to leak.

On a plus note is that I told Jeffrey to go ahead and change the suspension and set the boost to 0.5. Will give a better writeup of the gains and ride when I have more time on my hands. Cheerio folks!

road trip...

Woo Hoo. Finally managed to get some leaves approved. Sunshine and I will be heading out to Cherating for 2 nights. :D

Can't wait to hit the road with Kate as well. Good time to really test her out. Shes been coming along fine. Haven't really had the time to see her full capability as been busy with work. This weekend am gonna make sure I rip shit up!

Tuesday, September 02, 2008

crummy luck...

Sigh. Not sure why but my Sony Ericsson K800i is suddenly giving me problems. People can't seem to call me. Getting network busy or engage tone. While I can't call out to anyone. Getting network busy signal. This happened all of sudden as well. Practically overnight! Arrgghhh.

Its frustrating as I depend on my phone for quite a bit. For personal and work. Thankfully I still have my dad's old Nokia 2100. So have sent my phone in for a checkup since I have 1 month warranty left. Phew. Hope my baby is ok. :(

Monday, September 01, 2008

turbo kate...

I step into Kate and I see something at the corner of my eye. Anticipation builds. After a month plus I finally got my baby back. Hmmm was it worth the time and money? Then again if it wasn't, least I got a fancy gadget to look at. LOL.

Before I start her uo I head in front and pop the hood. Curious to see the final outcome. Daaamn! After 4 odd years of itching for this I finally have a turbo setup. Beautifully done piping and intercooler all in place. Real fine job by Jeffrey. Nice and clean. A real sight to behold I tell ya. ;)

Now I can't wait to get in and start her up. Before I could ask, Jeffrey says lets go for a spin but alas Murphy's law kicks in. It starts raining cats and dogs. Arrrggghhh. Why does it have to rain on the day I pick Kate up?! Dammit!

Unfazed I started Kate up and went for a spin. Sadly though I wasn't able to test her out. Jeffrey advised that it was only at 0.3 bar as my suspension wasn't safe enuff to boost more. No worries though as I was pushing 103whp. Thats like 30 odd percent increase!

Now am back home waiting patiently. Still raining mad outside. Can't wait for a clear day so I can take Kate out for a proper spin. :D

Wednesday, August 27, 2008

shes ready...

Guess what folks?! Just got news that Kate is ready to be picked up. Shes all tuned and ready to go. Can't wait I tell ya. If not for work eating up majority of my time I would have gotten her already. Gotta settle for the weekend instead.

Hold on baby, I'll be coming to get ya soon enuff! :D

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

delay delay...

Arrgggh. Kate has been ready for almost a week now but just cos the dyno is tied up with the multiple drag races over the weekend and the upcoming Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race, they aren't able to tune her. Sigh. No point in me picking her up without tuning as I'll be forced to return to get that done. Dammit.

I miss Kate. :(

football season is back!

Woo Hoo. No more bored weekends. Good ole EPL is back. The Red Devils opened the season yesterday with a win against Pompey for the FA Community Shield. Granted it wasn't a winning goal but penalties instead but hey, we can't have em' all right?!

This looks to be an interesting season with so many of the clubs spending big bucks bringing in talented players. Deco, Samir Nasri, Jo, Bosingwa, Luka Modric and maybe even Robinho or Pavlyuchenko. Unfortunately our boys have been rather quiet in the market. We seriously need a killer striker to work off Rooney or Tevez but sadly none in sight yet. Talks are going for Berbatov which in my opinion isn't suitable but I don't think that deal will go through especially with Spurs asking for 30 million pounds!

All through the break there were rumours of Ronaldo wanting out to join Madrid. Fortunately hes decided to stay put for this season. Hopefully he'll give us one more good year and then he can get lost. Didn't like how the whole saga came about and was handled. Yes overplayed by the press and Madrid but also Ronaldo should have stepped up to quieten it down. Instead he actually ate off the coverage. Oh well I guess when you have a big head what else can you do right?!

Three new clubs are in the Premiership this season. We have the Tigers, the Potters and the Baggies. My money is on Hull City who qualified with the help of our very own Frazier Campbell. Hopefully he can help us out this year up front. Okay enuff ranting. Let the season begin. Hope the boys will be able to start off with a win. First game is against the Magpies. Should be a tough fight.

Glory glory Man United!

transformation updates...

I missed out last week but I promised myself I wouldn't skip this weekend. On Sunday I headed to D'Pro with my mate Remy to check on Kate.

She was looking fine as ever. One thing about D'Pro is that they have a spotless garage. Really makes a difference in my opinion. The car was without any oil stains or marks. Apart from some dust it was like how I left her.

She wasn't really done yet. No intercooler or air intake. Only thing done were the piston kit upgrade as well as the manifold and turbine.

The yummy stainless steel manifold. *droooool*. Can't wait for it to be red hot. :D

Can't really see from this angle but its the turbine. Small IHI RHF 4 ball bearing turbo. Tried to get a good angle but the frame and radiator was in the way.

According to Jeffrey it'll be up and running by Friday. I seriously doubt it but its good news nevertheless as its 1 week faster than planned. He hasn't started the engine yet so hope it runs without any issues. Gotta keep my fingers crossed!

PSU it is...

After some tiring troubleshooting. Ok it wasn't all that bad but with lack of sleep and lots of annoyance what do you expect?! Anyhoo turns out my power supply unit blew. So today I manage to run into Digital Mall PJ and grabbed a good replacement, AcBel E2 390w.

Now my rig is running fine. Phew! :D

Wednesday, July 30, 2008

what now?!

Arrggh what now?! I woke up yesterday to a hung desktop. Tried a cold start and it won't boot up. Disconnected the power cable and left it overnight. Just tried booting it but it won't start the sequence. Sigh.

Looks like its either my motherboard or my power supply. Don't have time to troubleshoot now. Gotta wait till the weekend I guess. Bummer. :(

goodies for kate...

I haven't managed to check on Kate. I think now she would have her internals all out laid bare. I wanted to document the whole process and take pictures of every stage but sadly exhaustion got the better of me.

Work is taking its toll and every weekend I just want to bum the time away. Hate looking at the monitor at times cos that is ALL I do 15 hours a day! This weekend isn't any better as I have to provide reports every 3 hours. Arrrgghhh.

On a plus note, I had a nice chill out session with Sunshine at Old Town White Coffee. Yummy coffee and great company! After that we went to Sunway in hopes that Kakimotor will be open. I needed to get some gadgets for Kate before they wrap up the transformation. Thankfully they were and below are the goodies I grabbed. :)

First up an Apexi Auto Timer (black edition). Need this so that my baby can cool down after a run. Being a turbocharged car it the oil temperature can get crazy hot. A decent amount of idle time is needed before shut down so that the hot oil won't choke up the lines. Didn't want to be cheap for this so I got the best timer out there.

Next up was to get a gauge. This isn't something I really need as I'm having a fixed low boost setup but firstly its never too bad to have one, so you know if something is failing and lastly it looks freakin' cool! LOL. Gotta admit at times its nice to have gadgets in the car. Gives a sense of accomplishment as well as excitement.

There are a lot of gauges out there but I settled on the most important which is the Boost Gauge. Didn't really want to plonk down too much on this so I settled for the Taiwan made Auto Gauge. It looks good and it does the job. Now I just gotta figure out where do I place it for security purpose. Last I need is an ass smashing my glass to get hold of it!

Alrighty folks. Thats the lastest update for now. Cheerio...

slow down...

My blogging has slowed down quite a bit. Not due to lack of content but more of being too caught up with work. I haven't even had time to read up on all my daily haunts. Lost touch with quite a few of em' and haven't had the time to do what I love to do, which is to chow down.

No time to try out new places or even go out to grab dinner. Everything is packed for me. Arrgggh. Getting fed up of fast food as well. Theres only so much burgers and pizza one can take ya know! :(

Hope things will slow down once we go live (tommorrow!) with the new project. Things are looking up and I foresee maybe another month of suffering before things are back to normal. Then again I've been told another project is coming in soon after. LOL.

Oh well. Guess its better than sitting idle right. I have after all been bitching about boredom for the last couple of years. ;)

transformation time...

On Wednesday I received a call from Jeffrey at D'Pro. Their workshop has an opening and they want me to bring Kate in. As posted earlier I have decided to go for a bolt on turbo setup. I know I said it would be done early August but I decided what the heck. Might as well get Kate in now and get her back sooner.

So now am without a ride. Gotta share with my old man which isn't all that bad I guess. Least now I can roll in an 8th Generation Honda Civic. ;)

Will try to get pictures from time to time of the whole transformation process. Still haven't gone out to get the electronics, namely a boost gauge and a turbo timer. Guess I'll do that next weekend when I have some spare time on my hands.

Am missing Kate already. :(

killiney kopitiam at jaya one, pj...

Its been ages since I did my last food review. I have a handful pending actually but just haven't found the time to post em'. This post however is what I had for lunch just a couple of hours ago.

Killiney Kopitiam is a Singaporean kopitiam chain which was originally founded in 1919. Yup thats a long way back! I heard about this place a couple of years back where the only outlet I've seen was in Damansara Uptown. Unfortunately due to the poor parking situation there, I never managed to try this place out. This particular branch is located at Jaya One along Jalan University, PJ.

First up in any kopitiam is to try out their coffee. Sunshine and I both had Kopi Ais (RM2.50). It came in a nice tall glass and tasted pretty good. Not too sweet or too strong. A rather good start to the meal.

We both wanted something light so we decided on trying out their noodles. They looked really yummy in the menu. Sunshine settled on the Mee Rebus (RM5.80). When it came it smelled and looked good. Sadly though the moment she put it in her mouth, it all went downhill. The noodles were ok but the gravy was way below par. How can one enjoy noodles when its gravy isn't up to task? Think Nyonya Colors still serves the best mee rebus in town. At least cafe type mee rebus that is.

I wanted to try something new so I decided on the Singapore Katong Laksa (RM5.80). Just like Sunshine's noodles, it came looking yummy and rich. Sadly though thats about as good as it got. The soup, albeit rich in lemak flavor was too oily to enjoy. The only plus point was the tauhu pok which were fresh and crispy. I left half the noodles behind as I couldn't take the oily soup.

As an appetizer we ordered one set of Roti Bakar (RM2.30). Sadly though it came half way through our meal. What made it worse? The simplest of dishes turned out to be the worst I've ever tasted. Never thought anyone can screw this up but I guess theres always a first! The bread was stale while the kaya & butter didn't even taste like they should. We practically left half of it untouched. :(

This might be cos the place is new but I will never return to Killiney Kopitiam. They bastardized a simple dish like roti bakar. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. My road side mamak serves up a much better fare and 1/3 the price! :P

birthday weekend...

So what did I do during my birthday weekend? I had quite and eventful time actually. Started of with our mornin' futsal session. It was after a 3 week slumber so lots of energy to release. Had 12 guys so we were all over the place. After that retired home and chilled till dinner time.

Old man wanted to buy so we decided try out a new place. Ended up at RibLee's at Sri Hartamas. Didn't take any photos to review but I would definately recommend this place. Great ambiance, friendly staff and yummy selections of pork ribs! Plus they have Weihenstephan on offer which is a German beer that comes from the oldest brewery in the world. Really good stuff! *hic*

After dinner I headed to town with the boys. We ended up at The George and Dragon pub in Bangsar Shopping Center. The main reason was to try out their Strongbow cider. The last time we went over they were out of stock so luckily this time around they had some. It tasted like Anglia Shandy to me. Which is good I guess cos easier to take down but you won't know what hit you if you don't slow down. Can ask Devan to verify that. LOL. Its actually nicer to mix it with Stout so for my 2nd pint I had what they called 'Poor Man's Black Velvet'. Half Guinness Stout and half Strongbow cider. Damn now that tasted like a drink. The Guiness helps numb down the sweetness to give that extra kick. We chilled at the bar till late and headed home to crash.

The next day started off slow. Got up late and bummed the afternoon away. At night it was Sunshine's turn to spoil me. Hehe. We headed to Mid Valley for dinner. Tried out this place called Cova at the Gardens. Once again no pics for review as was busy enjoying the moment. All I can say is that I'll definately return to Cova as their food/drinks were fresh, affordable and yummy! After the lovely dinner we both walked about Gardens and then Mid Valley waiting for Hancock to start. Rather disappointing movie. After the movie ended, Sunshine and I just hung out till late and then retired home around 5ish.

So thats all folks. A great birthday weekend for me! :D

PS. I got my first Raoul shirt from Sunshine for my birthday. Even wore it on the 3rd of July to show off. Hehe. :D

29 already?!

Guess what folks? Today I turn 29! Yup 1 year away from the BIG 30, as most of my mates seem to comment. Sadly am tied down with a new project and don't even have time to enjoy my own birthday cake! :(

Thanks to all who wished, sang and joked. Means a lot to me. Hope I'll have a good day today with lots of prezzies. Hehe. G'nite folks! :D

lcd monitor...

Just got myself a new toy yesterday. Dad wanted to get me something for my birthday and he knew I was eyeing an LCD monitor. So voila! I now have a shiny glossy black 19" Samsung 943BWX LCD monitor. :D

It was a toss up between Samsung and View Sonic and due to reputation I decided to go for Samsung. They also come with 3 years warranty so thats comforting. Almost got a 22" as old man didn't mind but decided against it as it would be a waste considering my usage. But boy it was sweet looking. Would be great to watch movies or play games. ;)

Soon after getting back I transferred my current 17" CRT Samsung to my dad's rig as he has a 10 year old 15" Dell monitor. Yup it lasted for 10 freaking years! Its still running fine but since my CRT is newer and much clearer might as well use it. Am now looking for a recycling center so I can drop off the Dell.

Am still getting used to the LCD monitor. Its hard to find the right settings that will work with my eyes and in my room but I guess all in time. Did I mention everything looks sweeter on it? Hehe. Just played a game and damn what a difference.

Thanks old man for a great birthday gift! :D

swamped...

Damn I've been swamped lately at work. Been having 14 hour days and serious lack of sleep. Haven't read so many blogs or forums. Even skipped newspapers a handful of days due to rushing to work. Finally after 2 odd years of hoping, I got assigned with a new project.

Really looking forward to it but sadly with some lack of planning certain things have been rushed. On one side am frustrated due to the haphazard transition and unfair pressure but on the other side am happy for the challenge. It is tiring but hey better than the daily routine right? After a couple of months (okay maybe 6 months) it will all settle and I'll start bitching again that am bored. LOL.

Oh well, for now I'm actually happy to be home and able to hit the sack. Gonna savour this weekend and rest well. Next week the new team is coming in and longer days ahead. Happy weekend guys and pray Germany takes the cup! :D

final showdown...

Its the final showdown. Come Sunday (wee morning of Monday for us) we will know who the Euro 2008 Champions are. Will be it be Spaniars or the Germans?

Both sides have been playing great football. Sad though as I wanted Russia to head to the finals especially with their attacking flair. Would be great to see how they fare against the Germans. Kudos still to both Turkey and Russia. They pulled off some amazing upsets and played beautiful football. Bet nobody every thought they would make it past the group stages.

My money is on the Germans but the Spaniards have been playing well too. David Villa is out with an injury but they have capable subs to fill in. It'll definately be an interesting final. Hopefully chock full of goals just like the semis. ;)

tournament of upsets...

Boy what a shocker Euro 2008 has turned out to be. Amazing comebacks and shocking upsets. Can only imagine how broke gamblers are and how rich bookies must be. Its so hard to predict an outcome of a game. Favourites crossed off the list and underdogs rising to the occasion.

Who would have thought that Turkey and Russia will be in the semifinals. Turkey with their amazing comeback from 2 down against Czech Republic to win it 3 - 2. Then Russia upsetting new tournament favourites the Oranje by 3 - 1! I wonder if one of them will make it to the finals.

My favourites this year, the Germans are still in the running. They face Turkey who is playing with a depleted team. They only have 13 fit players to choose from and most of those aren't part of the first 11. Good news I guess as it raises the chance of Germany reaching the finals. Although by the way the tournament is going, I wouldn't put it past the Turks to cause another upset.

One thing for sure is that Euro 2008 has been an amazing tournament. Hope the finals is between a powerhouse and an underdog. Least then we can look forward to a heated encounter. :D

new favourites...

Looks like Euro 2008 isn't really going as how most predicted. Quite a handful of upsets and now 2 new favourites have emerged. Both Portugal and Netherlands have run riot over their competitors. The Dutch being the most entertaining by thrashing Italy in their 1st game and only moments ago humilating Les Blues.

Netherlands used to be my favourite team but somehow with all their talents they had teamwork issues. Ego and racism were rife and that hampered their glory. Gotta give it to Marco Van Basten for putting things in order. If they keep this up, they look to be unstoppable!

Portugal on the other hand were always a threat. This time around with red-hot Ronaldo and the others vying for new clubs, they are bound to be on fire. With the leadership of Scolari (soon to be Chelsea's new manager) I can't see them missing out on the finals unless of course another upset occurs. ;)

My vote is still on the Germans. Hope they bounce back against Austria. Sadly without Podolski but am sure Klose and Ballack will rise to the occasion.

Alrighty time to hit the sack. Yaaawwn. Gd'nite folks!

first step...

Ok I have taken the first step. For years I have been dreaming thinking of going turbo, contemplating the cost and pros/cons. Few days ago I finally put pen to paper and scheduled Kate to go in 1st week of August.

The whole transformation is gonna take close to a month. Would be sad not to have a car that whole period. Guess I gotta tough it out till Kate is out. Least it'll be worth the wait. In the meantime I can enjoy my old man's ride. ;)

Am already hearing the blow off valve in my head. LOL. Damn can't wait I tell ya! :D

euro 2008...

Usually around this time we would be suffering from football withdrawal syndrome as the EPL season is over and it won't start again till August. Thankfully this year we have Euro 2008 which gives us a packed schedule throughout June.

This round the tournament is being jointly hosted by Switzerland and Austria. We are almost towards the end of Round 1 where the Oranje opened a can of whoop ass on the Azzurris, Podolski slammed 2 in for Germany to give them the win and France played the dullest game so far against Romania.

Overall the biggest surprise has to be the Dutch team who shocked Italy with a 3 nil scoreline. Been awhile since I've seen them play with such speed and flair. They were all over the Italians who are actually number 2 favourites to lift the cup.

I still feel that Germany will win it but Portugal and Holland have shown that they aren't letting it go without a fight. It looks to be an interesting tournament. Can't wait for the next game. Will Spain win against Russia? Will Greece rise to the occasion? Lets wait and see. ;)

it went up, so what?

Sigh. Whats the big fuss over the petrol hike? Yes I know it was a huge difference but then weren't we all expecting it? Was it worth causing multiple hours of traffic jams just to pump ya last tank of RM1.92 (per liter) petrol? Thats if you got to the pump before it supposedly 'finished'.

We should accept the fact that with the speculated pricing of crude oil worldwide the government will have to lower the subsidies to cope. They can't be sustaining it when its already US$138 per barrel! I would however agree that the way it was done is rather shocking. 78 sens a liter is a huge jump.

They should have at least increased it gradually over the months instead of big increments. Smaller yet more frequent changes would be easily acceptable. Least then we are ready and can plan ahead so to speak. I mean yes the public will still bitch about it but least the burden is slight wherelse now its rather evident.

On a positive note the goverment will be giving out rebates of RM625 per year for cars below 2000cc. However I wonder how its going to be implemented considering how half assed most of their plans are. Can't imagine post offices stocking up on cash for each road tax renewal. Guess we can only wait and see.

Oh well gotta make some lifestyle changes. No more joyrides to calm the nerves. No more waiting in the car for people. Gotta arrange more car pooling for drinking, futsal or makan sessions. Damn gotta stop flooring the pedal as well. Arrrgghhh. Then again, within 2 weeks, everything will be back to normal like nothing ever happened. LOL.

Cheers folks. Relax and have a nice coooooold stout! :D

slow updates...

I know I know. Its been ages since I updated my blog. Failing my SLAs. Sorry folks. Been caught up with stuff here and there that I haven't had time to update on anything. I have a few pending on draft mode. Arrgghh.

Will be kinda slow for awhile but before you know it, I'll be back! ;)

kings of europe...

What a spectacular final in Moscow! Hope all you footy fans didn't miss this historical all English Champions League final. What heart and passion was thrown onto the pitch by both teams. Told you it was gonna be a cracker. :D

At the end of it all, the team with the most desire won it. The game was right down to the wire ending in 120 minutes 1 - 1. Great header by Ronaldo in the 26th minute before Lampard scoring the equaliser just before half time. Then it was a tensed 75 minutes where both teams were picking at one another.

It was unfortunate that the title was decided with penalties but how else when both teams were not giving in. Always hated penalties. Too freaking tensed plus its all down to luck. I was off my seat pacing around the living room, heart pounding. Felt like I was one of the boys I tell ya.

Somehow I knew CR7 was gonna miss it and when he did my heart fell. What made it worse was when none of the Chelsea boys missed their shots till the 5th round. Terry slipping and hitting the woodwork was like a blessing from the heavens! It was a great way to cap the game with Giggsy slotting in the winner and Van De Sar saving Anelka's spot kick.

What a glorious end to the season. A well deserved double for the Red Devils. Congrats boys and big kudos to Sir Alex Ferguson. A true mastermind of the game. Never doubt his tactics as without a doubt he'll always surprise you. ;)

Glory glory Man United! Champions of 2008!

the time has come...

In 24 hours one of the hottest games in European football will commence at the Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow. The battle between the Red Devils against the Blues for the coveted UEFA Champions League trophy.

Leading up to the game both teams have been going at it verbally to psyche one another out. At the end of the day is what happens on the field tommorrow that counts.

Manchester United are gunning for a double (and their 3rd Champions League title!) while Chelsea are hoping not to go home empty handed this season.

Their last encounter at Stamford Bridge was a pretty heated one but I expect this to be much worse. Who will steer their teams to victory? Will it be Ronaldo or Lampard? Rooney or Drgoba? Or like in 1999, will it be a super sub (Malouda or Tevez perhaps?) who comes in and changes everything. Only time will tell. Brace yourselves folks for an amazing night of wonderful football. :D

My thoughts on the first 11 for Manchester United would be VDS, Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand, Brown, Park, Scholes, Carrick, Ronaldo, Hargreaves and Rooney. Tevez and Giggsy to come in towards the last 30 odd minutes to change things up a bit. What say you? ;)

Glory glory Man United!

iron man...

After a pretty long time I finally managed to catch a movie in the theaters. It was a day off one Monday as our clients were on bank holiday and I didn't want to just bum at home. Got up around 11ish and headed straight to Cineleisure Damansara.

Can you guess what did I end up watchin'? Yup, it was Iron Man! After all the hype and rave reviews (93% in Rotten Tomatoes & 8.2/10 from IMDB), I couldn't miss it.

I was fortunate enuff to get a THX theater and enjoy all the sound effects in full glory. This has to be the best comic book adaptation after X-Men.

Robert Downey Jr. was the perfect choice for Tony Stark. I heard Tom Cruise was suppose to play the lead role but thankfully it was all rumours. He would have killed the character and the movie. Robert Downey had the role down pat. Guess being a rich alcholic flamboyant playboy suits him. Hehe. To be honest he is a versatile actor. One of the main reasons why I wanted to watch this movie.

Gwyneth Paltrow also played her role as Pepper Potts well. Wouldn't we all love to have a PA like Gwyneth. ;) The villain Obadiah Stane was played by Jeff Bridges, who for the first time went bald. Which I just found out from E! was his own idea. He carried the role well too. Actually the whole freaking cast was spot on.

If you haven't watched it yet, you better head down to the cinemas and catch it. Don't think watching it at home will do the movie justice. Kudos to Jon Favreau for doing a great job of putting it all together. Can't wait for the sequel. :D
